The Madonna Debate

We spent a significant amount time on this last night over Skype, Michelle and I. Obviously Madonna wasn’t hoping to make the Best Dressed List with this selection. Madonna is many things. But Madonna is not stupid. She wasn’t looking to the MiniVan to gasp with delight over that thing in her head and her muscles popping like flashbulbs.

For Madonna, at the Costume Institute Gala, it was all about theatricality. In that sense, then, it’s a winner.

Remember her motto: All the world is a stage.

And everyone has their part.

Now you’ll be singing it all day. Sorry.

The point is, Madonna doesn’t do anything, and certainly nothing like the Met Gala, without making sure she can make it about her. And so she tried. Almost too hard. Michelle contends she tried too hard.

I think it’s exactly the right sense of humour.

And indeed, she succeeded. Every paper has mentioned it, scorned it, hated on it, mocked it, pissed on it, laughed at it, come back to it and laughed at it some more…

At the end of the day, you don’t think she knows that? You don’t think that’s what she intended?

Madge took Guy Oseary to the event but added Jesus at the afterparty. Jesus is apparently now modelling for Marc Jacobs in exchange for pretending to be her boyfriend. Kinda like Jessica Biel, only slightly less legitimate.
