Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg have signed on to a new biopic called The Fighter about Irish Mickey Ward. Bale will play Marky Mark’s half brother who ends up training him. As E! pointed out, the director is none other than David O Russell who, like Christian, had a meltdown on the set of I Heart Huckabees in a tirade against Lily Tomlin.

Bale of course was publicly vilified earlier this year for going on a near-five minute shouting spree on the set of Terminator Salvation last summer. Needless to say, everyone – even the New York Times - has been snarking today about the possible rant-off between the two tempestuous men.

Can you imagine?

Compare and contrast their meltdown masterpieces.

First Bale:

And now David O Russell. The dude who stays seated in the chair there, I think it’s Jason Schwartzman, always kills me. His body language makes the whole clip even funnier.

And the second part of it, when the shoot moves to the car, and Lily is still going off, and Dustin Hoffman is wedged beside her, SO uncomfortable… it’s terrible to say but it kills me every time I watch it.

A few more quick notes about David O Russell – he also directed the usually mild mannered George Clooney in Three Kings and it’s widely known that the two scrapped on the set one day when George asked Russell to chill out on abusing the crew, to which Russell replied:

“Why don't you just worry about your f-cked-up acting?! You're being a dick. You want to hit me? You want to hit me? Come on, pussy, hit me.”

Then he punched George and George lost his sh-t and kicked his ass. Russell eventually apologised.

Not long afterwards, he turned his anger onto Christopher Nolan. They were fighting over Jude Law because Nolan wanted Jude in one of his movies and Jude walked off Russell’s movie to do Nolan’s so when Russell ran into Nolan at a party, he put him in a headlock and yelled at onlookers. Jude immediately went back to work for him.

So…

David O Russell and Christian Bale together for a movie called The Fighter?

Please.

Please let me on that set.
