May 6, 2016 – Smutty Shout-Outs
“Regrettably named after Channing Tatum’s character in ‘She’s the Man’, Duke spent eight great years as a best friend and family member to the Van Allen clan. He was known for hiding underneath window curtains, howling when the phone rang and being completely incompetent at catching scraps of food thrown his way. More importantly, he was always there to provide comfort during hard times, whether with a lick or head butt. He was the first to greet you eagerly when you got home and loved to sneak cuddles by pushing himself under a free arm. He loved cheese, scratches behind the ears, long walks where he would demand a pat from any pedestrian who looked his way and finally, chewing on bones and then proceeding to gross everyone out by hacking up undigested pieces of rawhide. It would be remiss not to mention the period of two years where he commenced a double life, impressively serving as both a mild-mannered dog and ruthless serial killer of backyard squirrels. He always tried to please his people and was the best dog anyone could ask for. He provided laughter, unwavering loyalty, and incredible companionship and all I can hope is that he knew how very much he was loved by our family. Good boy, Duke. The next time I see you, we’ll go for a nice, long walk and I’ll let you sniff every tree along the way. Rachel”
And for Sadie who knew about the baby before the father and who was there when both boys arrived and was a sister to them, not just “like” family, but totally family. Sadie will be remembered by Sara on Sunday while she runs the Sporting Life 10K in support of Camp Ooch, a camp for kids with cancer. Click here if you are able to make a donation. And Sara? The Queen would want you to “slay” on Sunday. Thanks God for the Queen indeed.
