Nominate her because she’s ugly

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 7, 2014 14:26:42 November 7, 2014 14:26:42

Two week ago, it was announced that Jennifer Aniston’s Cake, despite screening at TIFF not securing a distributor, would be released in limited run for Oscar qualification by a new company formed by the producers and rumoured to be backed by Aniston herself. She really wants recognition for this one. Full Story

Jessica Chastain has two Oscar-buzzy movies coming out—Interstellar this weekend and A Most Violent Year at the end of December. She’s already got good odds on a Supporting Actress nomination with Interstellar, but some Oscar prognosticators think she’s better and more worthy in Violent Year. Full Story

On Monday I wrote about PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2014. Click here for a refresher. In short, I thought it would probably be either Matthew McConaughey or Chris Pratt, given the year that both have had. PEOPLE just released its cover for this week. Full Story

Oh noes… How are you over there Cumber-crazies? You OK with this wakeup call? A notice of engagement appeared in The Times today. Very subtle. Very classy. Very Cumberbatchy. Very fitting of someone called Benedict Cumberbatch. This might be my favourite thing about Benedict Cumberbatch – the way he announced that he’s to marry Sophie Hunter. Full Story

Carey Mulligan, the “muse”

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 4, 2014 20:12:41 November 4, 2014 20:12:41

Carey Mulligan covers the December issue of UK Harper’s Bazaar in support of her upcoming role in Suffragette. The part was written specifically with her in mind. She’s a muse. Like so many of the greats, people create for her. Because she can – and does – deliver the most gorgeous performances, on film and on stage. Full Story

Christian Bale has cut ties with the Steve Jobs biopic written by Aaron Sorkin and being directed by Danny Boyle—I refuse to make any Bale/bails puns. This is the same project that potentially has Seth Rogen in to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (a really nice piece of casting, if it comes through), and that Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to have passed on in favor of The Revenant. Full Story

Though Nightcrawler opened over the weekend, earning a respectable $10.4 million, Jake Gyllenhaal is still out promoting the movie. Partially because Nightcrawler is the kind of movie that benefits from word of mouth, but also in no small part in service of an Oscar campaign. Full Story

Angelina Jolie. Vanity Fair. God. Those eyes. THAT FACE. The Jolie was photographed for the December issue by Mario Testino. This, of course, is for Unbroken, opening at Christmas and expected to contend for Oscar. They’ve been expecting it to contend for Oscar for a year now. Or, at the very least, a directing nomination for the new Mrs Pitt. Full Story

Reese Witherspoon and the McConaughey model

First a reminder: Reese Witherspoon’s husband, Jim Toth, is Matthew McConaughey’s agent. Together, he and McConaughey engineered what’s now known as the McConaissance. Perhaps the same game plan is now in place for Reese. Like McConaughey, what Reese is offering is supposed to be a lot more varied and nuanced than what we saw in How To Legally Blonde A Guy In Ten Days. Full Story
