Once upon a time, not so very long ago, Katherine Heigl was on a popular TV show and was launching a promising film career. She was on the brink of having it all, of being America’s next sweetheart and becoming one of the most famous women in the world, with the kind of juice to get whatever projects she wanted made. Full Story

Give me the Kate Mara!

It must be incredibly laborious to be a Mara sister. Being so aloof and self-possessed is not easy (for these two). I look at someone like Tilda Swinton, who is always the baddest bitch in the room, and it is easy for her. She’s just cool. Rooney and Kate strike me as the types who would bring a bottle of Chardonnay to a kegger and think it was so sophisticated. Full Story

George Clooney and the internet

George Clooney is all over the place for The Monuments Men. I even saw him on Kelly & Michael this morning on the press circuit. George is very selective about his press. He doesn’t make every stop. But I feel like he’s making more stops than usual this time. A George Clooney Hustle is always fun. Full Story

Cherry Picking Privacy: The Royal Edition

Cherry Picking Privacy is how I’ve been describing it for a while. It’s the celebrity approach to privacy, as illustrated most recently by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who are calling for a boycott on pap photos of celebrity children, and the publications that purchase them, but who also intimated that if it’s the parents’ “choice” to see baby photos to magazines – or laundry detergents – that’s totally OK. Full Story

Kristen Stewart is in Paris. Paris Fashion Week doesn’t happen until later this month but she dropped by Karl Lagerfeld’s studio today. Stewart is the face of Chanel’s upcoming campaign and those images are expected in May. Benefits on top of cash? Loading up on Chanel, double bagging and wearing a sweatshirt that seems made specifically for her. Full Story

Miley was on with Jay Leno last night. He’s wrapping up his tenure there – again – so it was her last appearance…with him as host. I’m sure she’ll be back with Fallon, non? Jay asked Miley what advice she’d give Justin. Basically, pay your people to take care of you and build a f-cking club in your house so you don’t have to cause mayhem out there. Full Story

The Righteous Couple

A few days ago, I wrote about a series of tweets by Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell calling for a boycott on magazines that buy photos of celebrity children (click here for a refresher). It made a lot of headlines, with some people taking up the cause for “save the children (who aren’t in any serious danger)” while others wondered if the whole crusade was an exercise for Dax and Kristen’s ego. Full Story

When it comes to celebrity culture, 99% of celebrities will tell you what a scourge the paparazzi are – how they just can’t stand the attention and they want to go shopping at The Grove in peace, ok? This is what they say, but it’s not hard to spot signs of collusion. Perfectly done hair/makeup on a grocery run, an uptick in photos during a promotion or campaign, a coffee run to announce a new coupling. Full Story

Do you miss Victoria Beckham? Posh hasn’t been papped in a long time. See? They can go deep underground when they want to. Even Victoria Beckham can go deep underground when she wants to. She wants to because she understands that her absence increases the value when she actually does show up. Full Story

Surprise, You and Anne Hathaway Were On a Break

It seems to me that the problem with Anne Hathaway, and the reason for her post-Les Miserables backlash, is that she doesn’t really know how to not revel in the spotlight. She milks it. Which isn’t really that offensive, but it rubs people the wrong way. Well, now she’s proving this more than ever because, according to her, she spent the past year trying to hide out, feeling that people “needed a break”  Full Story
