Then there was Bodhi
One of the very first name nerd commentaries on this site was about Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox’s son Noah Shannon, who was born in September 2012. Click here for a refresher. I said the name was lovely and surprisingly charming, and went well with Green’s older son Cassius.
Well, they wasted no time having another son, whose name, it was announced today, is Bodhi Ransom Green.
From Noah to Bodhi. I …really?
Bodhi is undoubtedly having a moment. Teresa Palmer also called her son Bodhi this week, and while I believe fewer and fewer parents are actually making it a game-time decision where names are concerned, there’s definitely a Bode Miller factor here in bringing the name back to the consciousness so that it’s simmering at the top of memory.
Bodhi feels trendy, to me, but there’s evidence that it’s the kind of trendy that will stay around, like boys named Austin. And while Bodhi and Noah are criminally opposite in style and that’s always made me crazy, they do have one sibling thing going for them – they have similar sounds and “softnesses”’ without rhyming. Bodhi and Noah. I’m not surprised that the name appealed to the Fox-Greens, actually, given their previous choices.
So I mean…definitely would not be what I would have chosen to follow Noah. I feel like this is one of those situations where they’ve decided Noah will go to prep school and Bodhi will sell weed and start a band. Differing expectations. But actually, when you listen to the way the names sound, I kind of get it.
Still, Bodhi (which I’ve seen on one little girl and several little boys and you don’t pronounce the “h”, really) just screams “wacky Hollywood name” and wanting to be different, and I thought these two weren’t so much about that.
As for the middle name, I’m going to assume it’s someone’s last name in an honor position and not that it’s some sort of riff on “Danger is my middle”. And I’m feeling pretty good about that choice.
