Only Meryl can take on Cate
It was reported just a few weeks ago that Meryl Streep would not contend for Best Actress at the Oscars in March and that, instead, she would be submitted in the Supporting category, with Julia Roberts representing August: Osage County in the lead to take on Cate Blanchett, the current frontrunner for Blue Jasmine. Click here for a refresher.
But yesterday, just as August screened for the first time at TIFF, it was confirmed that Meryl is back in the Best Actress position and that Julia’s name will be submitted for Supporting. Why the switch? According to a Gold Derby source:
"We have to look at the Best Actress race this way: Who's strong enough to beat Cate Blanchett? It's Meryl."
Did that just give you goosebumps?
It’s like Jordan vs Dr J, Gretzky and Crosby, Yamaguchi and Kwan, Sampras and Federer, Graf and Serena, Nicklaus and Woods, Korbut and Comaneci – except in this case, we don’t have to imagine. It’s possible. It’s happening!
While the two very best are dealing with each other up top though, Julia’s now left to hang out in Supporting… with Oprah.
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE THIS????
