Meryl Streep Gossip
Meryl Streep gossip, latest news, photos, and video.
I f-cking love her. Who doesn’t love her? We are fighting if you don’t love her. Meryl Streep has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The FIRST ACTOR EVER to receive the honour. EVER motherf-ckers. EVER. The only person to be made a member based exclusively on acting achievement. Full Story
Ms Streep killed it in a Balenciaga at the SAGs. Someone must be working with a stylist now? And the stylist delivered again for the Oscars. Meryl Streep in white – perfection. The hair – perfection. Her face – perfection. And virtually untouched. As you know however, when it comes to Meryl, it doesn’t matter what she wears. Full Story
Today was the annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon. Notably absent: George Clooney. It’s a non-campaign year for Clooney. Looks like he’s conceding early to Jeff Bridges. But enough of the boys. Let’s talk about our girls. GO Kathryn Bigelow, poised to become the first woman ever to win an Oscar for directing and a movie about war, no less. Full Story
A few years ago, Eddie Murphy pissed on his Oscar chances with a sh-t movie called Norbit. The Norbit billboards directly faced the Kodak, described at the time like a slap in the face to Academy Members who frowned upon his indiscriminate film selections. Sandra Bullock was nominated yesterday for Best Actress. Full Story
Meryl Streep in Balenciaga – love. Tina Fey in Ferragamo – not my favourite. It’s the shine, it gives lumps when there are no lumps. But who cares? These are CAPABLE women. Thinking women. Women who don’t stress about the aesthetic but who will still matter when the aesthetic is no more. Full Story
Major fangirl crushing. Last night in New York at the premiere of Meryl’s latest It’s Complicated, Tina showed up to support her co-star Alec Baldwin, of course, but there’s no doubt a lot of respect for La Streep too. After all, aside from her obvious CAPABILITIES, Meryl Streep, now 60, has had a run of box office dominance that’s been remarkable, especially considering this is an industry that ordinarily favours and celebrates youth above all. In other words, as we all know already, she’s perfect. And at 60 years old, Meryl Streep is on the cover of Vanity Fair closing out yet another triumphant year in which she delivered yet another sure-to-be-nominated performance in Julie & Julia with commercial and critical success and followed that up by playing the romantic female lead in a new comedy It’s Complicated due out this month. I was told of a Meryl Streep encounter recently where she was approached by a fan at a café while she was enjoying time with friends and asked for a photo, at which point she very graciously declined and said “I’m sorry, I’m not working right now”. Unlike the modern lot of twats that run that town, Meryl has kept that separation very clear. Full Story
Am still buzzing from the Meryl Streep/Johanna Schneller night of girl worship at the Royal Ontario Museum on Wednesday night. And here are some photos from the event courtesy of the ROM. You’ll note the face. A face that’s been allowed to age on its own, without interference. Streep said it herself, of Botox, and of course her 4 words succinctly sum it up for everyone.
“It interrupts the energy.”
Small details keep coming back to me from the evening. Like what she refers to as “My Mythology”, the Meryl Streep reputation, the preparation, the accents, the character submersion…
She, in that way of hers, almost brushes this off too. The best technique, really, according to Meryl Streep, is to simply show up. And when magic happens it’s when you show up as a “blank slate”. This is why Madonna can’t act, see? Madonna overthinks it and can’t let go of it.
The Vanity Fair Portraits exhibit at the ROM runs until January 3rd. You’ll love it. I’m going again in November.
Friday – am back in Vancouver, Twilight exclusives coming up, and the most egregious case of Photoshop f-ckery maybe ever.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING CANADA!!!!!!!!!!
Yours in gossip,
PS. I was rushing out of a meeting and checked my Blackberry on Wednesday. 2 minutes later, somehow my trainer Hayley managed to secure my commitment to participating in the Turkey Trot on Monday. The Turkey Trot supports the Vancouver Food Bank. See you there?
Last night at the Royal Ontario Museum, in celebration of the ROM’s Vanity Fair Portraits exhibit, Meryl Streep took the stage with Johanna Schneller to discuss “The Question of Celebrity”. 90 minutes of full-on girlcrush. WORSHIP. I met up with 2 friends afterwards and this is how Gabrielle explained it: What are you great at? The one thing you do that is better than anything else you do? Think about what it is and then know this – it’s still not as good as Meryl Streep’s acting. Full Story
