Michelle Williams & Busy Phillips: Best Globes plus one

During the red carpet show, Sarah tweeted out a question and received some amazing/hilarious responses:

What Sarah’s getting at here is whether or not Michelle Williams is as annoying as Natalie Portman. And I get why that’s up for discussion. But, for me, the reason she’s not, and what saves her is her best friend, Busy Phillips. They’ve been best friends, as we know, since Dawson’s Creek. And Busy is always Michelle’s plus one. Back in December, at a screening for Manchester By The Sea, Michelle told PEOPLE that:

“I’m here with my best friend. I’m so in love with her. She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life right there.”

This is how I feel about my best friend, Fiona. I’m in love with her. So in love with her. After 16 years of friendship, Fiona and I just spent our first Christmas together. I will never forget the way I felt when we hugged goodbye at the end of the night. It’ll be months before I see her again. And every time I think of her I am overcome with gratitude for having her in my life. That I am better for her being in my life. And I think the same is true for Michelle Williams.

Did you ever see the Instagram story that Busy posted after the Critics’ Choice Awards? Watch it:

This is what Busy Phillips does for Michelle Williams. Busy keeps Michelle silly. Busy brings out the “f-cks” in Michelle Williams. She also brings the carbs:

Michelle herself is not on social media, at least not publicly. And, obviously, Michelle is the bigger “name” with the big fashion contract and the nominations. But what I appreciate about the two of them is that Michelle is not Leo. Michelle doesn’t impose her choices on her best friend. There’s no “social media blackout” when they are together. Rather, when they are together, Michelle shows up on social media, because social media is a part of Busy’s life. And what Busy shows us in return is the anti-freaky baby quality in Michelle. I want to hang out with the version of Michelle that hangs out with Busy Phillips.

Busy wore Stella McCartney. Looks wonderful on her. Michelle, as usual, is in Louis Vuitton. I quite like the bow around her neck. I don’t mind the dress either. But the material is pretty much the same as the one from Critics’ Choice – and if that’s all they’re giving her to work with, it’s going to get pretty tired by the time the Oscars come around.
