David O Russell’s Joy screened in LA and NYC this weekend as Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper joined their director to promote the film and raise its award season profile. Joy’s been on the contender list for months now, because the combination of David O Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper has resulted in so many previous nominations. Full Story

Well, we've been waiting for it, haven't we? I have. Ever since Ben Affleck put Sienna Miller in his movie, I've been calling for it. And here it is. Check out Ben and Sienna on the set of Live By Night, kissing in character. Is it hitting you where your gossip lives? Um. Medium? Like I could totally, totally see it. Full Story

Matt Damon is in Berlin this week continuing to work on the new Bourne and, seemingly, staying away from awards campaigning. Which certainly makes him look a lot less hungry for it than, say, Leonardo DiCaprio. But considering that there might be a 6th man out in the Best Actor race, I do wish he'd step on it a little, just so Leo doesn't walk away with it like it's belonged to him the entire time. Full Story

Sarah is American and I feel bad asking her to write a Star Wars post on her Thanksgiving break so you’re stuck with me for this Star Wars article. Another TV spot was released yesterday. At first I was like, Jesus, does Star Wars really need to build all this anticipation? EVERYONE is going to see Star Wars. Full Story

In 2010, the world was captivated by the real life drama of thirty-three Chilean miners trapped underground in a collapsed gold and copper mine. Sixty-nine days later a miracle was achieved when all thirty-three men were rescued, starved but alive. Interviews, television appearances, and books followed, and a film adaptation was inevitable. Full Story

Will Smith for President?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 26, 2015 18:16:03 November 26, 2015 18:16:03

Will Smith is promoting Concussion. He’s been featured in multiple interviews this week and, unfortunately, most of them don’t feature Samuel L Jackson. Concussion is the true story of neuropathologist Dr Bennet Omalu’s work exposing what playing American style football can do a player’s brain based on a 2009 investigate report in GQ Magazine written by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Full Story

Why not Olivia Wilde?

Olivia Wilde is not just underrated, her talents are undervalued. That's my takeaway from watching her latest indie, Meadowland, about a mother struggling with a cloud of grief and guilt one year after her son's abduction. Think Rabbit Hole, but less bougie and with a smaller focus on marital strife. Full Story

In 2010 Argentinian thriller El Secreto de Sus Ojos won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, beating out A Prophet and The White Ribbon. It also did very good business for a subtitled import, topping $6 million at the box office, which means it found a considerable audience in the US. It did not need to be remade at all, so, naturally, it got an English-language remake just a few years later. Full Story

Captain America: Civil War – Whose side are you on?

In a surprise move, Marvel dropped the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live (thanks to some Grade-A studio f*ckery, expect to see a new trailer from DC soon, too). Trying to keep up with their bosses’ brinksmanship may drive everyone at Marvel Studios and Warner Brothers/DC completely insane, but so long as we get to break down Civil War, I’m fine with that. Full Story

The Revenant has been screening in LA for Academy members the last few days and the response has been very, very positive. As you know, The Revenant is Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s follow-up to Birdman, the reigning Best Picture. As you know, the shoot was difficult, it was delayed, it was expensive, and he was reportedly a dick to the crew. Full Story
