Daniel Craig’s new interview with Time Out London is being excerpted all over the place. He says he’d rather “slash my wrists” than do another Bond movie. And that he doesn’t “give a f-ck” who gets cast to play Bond next. When I first read these quotes, I was like, Jesus Christ, what happened to his happiness? He’s actually not that crusty though. Full Story

(Lainey: a new trailer for Trumbo was released yesterday. Some people think Bryan Cranston could be a contender. He’s so well liked in Hollywood. And he would be the answer if voters don’t want to reward Eddie Redmayne two years in a row, can’t stand Johnny Depp, continue to deny Leo, and if Fassbender won’t play. Full Story

So happy to start the day with two of my favourites. First Carey Mulligan, now one of my all-timers, Winona Ryder who was at the premiere of Experimenter in New York last night. It was hard to find shots of her without those shock eyes. She seems to be opening them up extra wide in most of these pictures, and they’re already large and arresting to begin with. Full Story

Casting Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily in Pan is not a move that went over well anywhere, and since she’s doing press to promote the movie, which comes out this weekend, Mara is now answering questions about the casting and whitewashing of what should have been a high-profile role for a Native actress. Full Story

Ramin Bahrani’s latest film, 99 Homes, makes for an interesting companion piece to Spotlight and the lesser Sicario, in that all three films deal with disillusionment and the corruption of an idealized system. Spotlight examines the putrid rot at the core of an ancient organization that’s become more interested in silly hats than people, Sicario takes us through the decayed morality of the drug war, and 99 Homes is a nightmarish look at the predatory disenfranchisement of the economic collapse of the late aughts. Full Story

Remakes have been a part of cinema from the beginning—The Wizard of Oz is a remake—so I’m not going to waste my time complaining about their existence. Movie remakes happen, they’re part of the cinematic landscape. Fine. But if we’re going to remake movies, especially if we’re going to rely on them as staples of the studio slate and not just occasional one-offs, then we need some ground rules, because this sh*t is getting out of hand. Full Story

A couple of weeks ago, US Weekly reported that Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender broke up. I wrote about how I wasn’t sure about how legit that was at the time – click here for a refresher. Alicia showed up at the Steve Jobs premiere on Saturday. Full Story

Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs

If Michael Fassbender wins an Oscar for playing Steve Jobs in the film of the same name, he has Ashton Kutcher to thank for it. That’s a joke, of course, but it’s one that Fassbender already made himself at the NYFF Steve Jobs press conference on Saturday. He’s referencing the Kutcher-led Jobs, which was released two years ago Full Story
