The Avengers are TOO PEPPY

We’ve said it before—the Avengers are the coolest club in Hollywood. When you put that group together, they’re a marketing flak’s wet dream. They sell themselves, they sell the movie, they sell the ongoing pop cultural domination of Marvel simply by showing up. Full Story

I LOVE these pictures of Julia Roberts. So much. They're just so...her. She's in New York, working on Money Monster. Let's start with the shots of her leaning out the car window, looking like she's throwing some sharp words at the crew members. Probably not. This is Photo Assumption after all, but still. Full Story

Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer were in Vegas earlier this week at CinemaCon to promote The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It comes out in August. And as I mentioned earlier this week, neither star has much heat right now so the marketing team for the movie has to get on it, soon. Cavill in particular, given that he's Superman, really needs this. Full Story

RDJ walks out

Before I shut down last night I watched the RDJ interview that everyone’s been talking about. He was in London the other day to promote Avengers: Age Of Ultron. The outlet was Channel 4 with journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy. It’s making headlines because the video is a major cringe. Guru-Murthy starts with a series of standard, innocuous movie questions and then attempts to get personal. Full Story

Did not or could not? Russell Crowe is currently promoting his directorial debut The Water Diviner. He’s been extra generous with gossip during this press tour. I’m obsessed with the one about Michael Jackson prank calling him. You heard about this? Michael would just ring up Russell’s hotel room and start asking to speak to Mr Wall. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Yesterday, the Cannes Film Festival announced its full jury for this year. And many are calling it the most physically attractive jury ever which I’m sure will go over well with the jury members. Still, it’s not like you can’t see it, right? Jury co-presidents Ethan and Joel Cohen will be joined by 7 others including Sophie Marceau, Rokia Traore, Guillermo del Toro, and Canada’s cinematic wonderboy Xavier Dolan because – can you believe it? – at just 26 years old, he’s had four films in the festival and doesn’t have one ready yet for this season so he has time to judge.  Read Full Intro

First… Please enjoy these photos of Idris Elba eating a donut. There are, like, 3 people in the entire world who can eat a donut and still manage to look attractive. He would be one of them. Next… Simon Pegg is co-writing the next Star Trek movie. He was asked at CinemaCon yesterday about his progress…and whether or not the rumours were true that Idris would be joining the cast. Full Story

Tom Cruise was in Vegas for CinemaCon as part of the Paramount presentation, especially important because Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation comes out in July and, well, they want it to make big money. They need it to make big money. Footage from the movie was screened for theatre owners and some film geeks. Full Story

Alicia Vikander and Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina

A stripped-down, more sinister companion piece to Her, Alex Garland’s Ex Machina is a stellar piece of science fiction. It’s eerie and thoughtful and provoking, featuring gorgeous natural visuals and beautifully integrated computer effects, and though none of the questions it asks are ground-breaking, the way Garland, who also wrote the script, plays out each line of questioning results in a tense, satisfying conclusion. Full Story

Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast rounded out its cast this week, getting ready to shoot later this year. Emma Watson is already on board as Belle, and Dan Stevens and Luke Evans join her as the Beast and Gaston, respectively. The cast is actually really interesting—Ian McKellan (Cogsworth), Emma Thompson (Mrs. Full Story
