Since I just pissed you off with those Gerard Butler pictures in the previous post, let me make it up to you. These are photos that, guaranteed, no one will object to. Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Tina Fey all together last night at the Steve Martin AFI Lifetime Award tribute gala. Well, obviously, that was the best table, non? Still 6 months to go before we see all of them in their movie, Sisters, opening in December. Full Story

Mission: Impossible 5 looks like a blast

After the back-to-back highs of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road, I’m kind of in a blockbuster hangover zone where I’ve lost interest in seeing more blockbusters. Like despite Chris Pratt’s charm offensive, Jurassic World is off my radar entirely. But a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (here is a franchise that really needs to use numbers and not subtitles) promises that there is still some action-movie fun left to be had this summer. Full Story

Everest: A big bag of NOPE

Sarah Posted by Sarah at June 4, 2015 19:19:21 June 4, 2015 19:19:21

Jake Gyllenhaal is going for the gold this year, first with Southpaw and then Everest, which is due in September—wouldn’t surprise me to see this one premiere at TIFF. Everest is based on Jon Krakauer’s book Into Thin Air, about the 1996 climbing disaster in which eight people died while descending Everest. Full Story

Johnny Depp has cranked up the charm dial in Australia. For a few consecutive days now he’s given Australian fans waiting for him on the set of Pirates 5 the full Movie Star Treatment, as the unit publicist doesn’t seem to mind that paps are on site to document every gesture. And every gesture has been so extra. Full Story

Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter: #squadgoals

The hashtag #squadgoals often appears in wanderlust Instagram captions about a power posse, but it’s best paired with the two new Suffragette trailers. Carey! Meryl! The HBC! They're the HBICs fighting for a vote for women in the film – I’m all in. "We break windows, we burn things," Carey's character Maud says in the trailer. Full Story

Following its well-received premiere in Cannes a couple weeks ago, the first teaser trailer for Macbeth was released today. It’s good. Really good. A lot better, to me at least, than those clips that were released during the festival. Michael Fassbender is convincingly unhinged. You can almost see the moral rot leaking from his eyes. Full Story

Britney Ninja Turtle

Oh look. It’s Megan Fox on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 in New York and you’re thinking of Britney Spears. Me, I’m thinking of Michael Bay. And whether or not this is the Michael Bay Women’s Team uniform. After all, this is a Michael Bay production. Would Michael Bay ever allow a female actor in one of his movies to wear drop-crotch pants? A baggy tee? Or even an A-line dress? I’m actually surprised Michael Bay would even cast Megan Fox. Full Story

Eddie Redmayne has joined the Harry Potter family. It was confirmed yesterday that Eddie will play Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The first film of the planned trilogy will be released November 2016 and is being written by JK Rowling herself. In case you didn’t know – and, um, why wouldn’t you, didn’t we ALL go to Hogwarts??? – these movies are prequels to the story we’ve practically memorised; Newt Scamander wrote the Fantastic Beasts textbook that Harry, Hermione, and Ron – but really only Hermione – studied at school. Full Story

So says Paul Feig, the director of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. In an interview with AlloCine while promoting Spy, Feig said the only way he can see to remake Ghostbusters is to reimagine it with women. I love that he says this, that the only way it makes sense to him is as a female-driven project. Full Story

After judging in Cannes and spending a few days in Italy, Jake Gyllenhaal is back in New York, seen here all covered up while out and about yesterday. Jake is set to make his musical theatre debut in a month in Little Shop Of Horrors for 3 performances on July 1 and 2 which is 3 weeks before the release of Southpaw, for which he’s starting to do press now. Full Story

After-bro: The Entourage movie

I read a great article over at Slate this weekend: How Entourage went from critical darling to cultural punching bag. Basically we’ve changed since Entourage first launched. We’ve asked for more in the way women are represented, not just in relationship to men, but in the way we ask for better from them. Full Story
