In the battle of the Rooney Sisters, where do we stand? For a while there, it seemed like Rooney Mara was ahead of elder sister Kate, and she did bag that Oscar nomination for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But recently she said that the English-language remake of the sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire, is dead in the water Full Story

Since I’ve been reviewing movies on LaineyGossip, I don’t think you guys have seen me enthusiastically like a movie, so for the first time, here is me enthusiastically liking a movie, no complaints. Cinderella is adorable, a genuinely enjoyable and entertaining family film. Ryan Gosling presented his film, Lost River, at SXSW this weekend. First, a conversation moderated by his friend, the director Guillermo del Toro. The two are apparently quite close. Throughout the discussion, even though the film was not well received in Cannes, del Toro repeated several times how much he admired Gosling’s work, going out of his way to make sure people knew that he thinks the film is good. Full Story

I watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel over the holidays with my parents and found it be a charmingly daffy mix of Fawlty Towers, Cocoon, and cheerful racism (India! So quaint!). With his latest movie Chappie, South African director Neill Blomkamp officially enters The Wachowski Zone: His debut feature film was an impressive feat, and everything that has followed it is a flop mess. Chappie isn’t completely terrible—it’s not as off the rails as, say, Jupiter Ascending Full Story

Rihanna doesn’t do a lot of interviews. She’s done some major interviews, sure. But you know she’s selective. And you know we don’t actually hear her speak at length very often. She’s promoting an animated film called Home though. So there are some press commitments. One of those was showing up on Good Morning America today with co-stars Steve Martin and Jim Parsons. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

HBO has my anticipation on lockdown. Game Of Thrones, Going Clear (the Scientology documentary), and Montage Of Heck are all due in the next couple of months. I’ve written a couple of times already about Montage Of Heck, Brett Morgen’s highly anticipated film about Kurt Cobain, made with the blessing of both Frances Bean and Courtney Love, and with exclusive permission to go through Cobain’s personal archive.  Read Full Intro

Anne Hathaway stepped out last night in New York to support the Public Theatre where she’ll be performing this spring. It’s not…my favourite hairstyle on her. On the weekend, The Devil Wears Prada was on. Hadn’t seen it in a while. I’ve decided I miss her with long hair. Full Story
