Many of us noticed during the Golden Globes that Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are not only awesome ladies on their own, but they’re especially awesome together. Longtime friends and sometimes collaborators, they’re like the proto-version of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Well they’re at Sundance this week, where Tomlin is promoting Grandma, and they appeared together at the Women In Film brunch, an event so popular people were turned away like it was one of the A-list movie premieres. Full Story

Page Six reports today that Johnny Depp is considering breaking up with his long-time agent Tracey Jacobs because all his movies suck and he’s “devastated” that they’ve not been well received. Supposedly he’s thinking about working with Rick Yorn who manages Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Reese Witherspoon, Scarjo, Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and more. Full Story

This Means War was on TV during the holidays. I watched the first half, with commercials. You know how some movies get better on television because you’re comfortable on the couch or in bed and your general sense of expectation is just a lot lower? Yeah, no. TV doesn’t make This Means War a better movie. Full Story

We’ve been talking about revisiting Ghostbusters in some form or another for years now. For a while it was going to be Ghostbusters III, potentially starring the aged version of the original cast. Then maybe it would be a sequel but with a younger cast, then a straight reboot. Last year it was announced that director Paul Feig would indeed be rebooting Ghostbusters, but with a twist—an all-female cast. Full Story

Fantastic Four looks surprisingly good

The thing that has always worried me about Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot is that it would just be Chronicle: Redux. And then a couple months ago I saw some rough footage and had a definite YIKES reaction, so my expectations, which weren’t high to begin with, plummeted even lower. I was having flashbacks to Roger Corman’s infamous 1994 Fantastic Four, made entirely so that a studio could keep character rights from reverting to Marvel Entertainment. Full Story

She was already halfway there. Some people just have that “living cartoon” look, like they were drawn by Disney animators then stumbled out of Cool World on accident. Emma Stone has that look and Tom Hiddleston too—he’s a live-action Disney prince if ever there was one. Emma Watson also looks like a live-action Disney character, and it’s now official as she’s been cast in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Full Story

Human cartoon Johnny Depp has had a bad run over the last few years. He's starred in a string of flops ranging from the ill-advised The Tourist to 2013's embarrassing Lone Ranger and now the disastrous Mortdecai, and he has scarfed his way out of the affections of many fans, myself included. Full Story

You know how that meadow is a big f-cking deal to Twi-Hards? Well f-ck off Twi-Hards, because Tom Cruise meadowed first! So you’ve heard about Going Clear? The new HBO Scientology documentary that premiered at Sundance? Word is HBO assembled a team of 160 lawyers to cover their asses so that they could go ahead and make this movie. Full Story

Coming off a disappointing opening-night film with The Bronze, Sundance rebounded over the weekend with Craig Zobel's Z for Zachariah, the end-of-the-world love triangle movie. Starring Chris Pine, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Margot Robbie, the film has been getting great reviews Full Story

Mortdecai review

Sarah Posted by Sarah at January 26, 2015 18:50:53 January 26, 2015 18:50:53

Last week I was pleasantly surprised when Paddington turned out to be a sweet, adorable film. This week, after seeing Mortdecai, I was not similarly surprised. Because it was not good. Done in the style of pre-war screwball capers, Mortdecai is about Charlie Mortdecai (human cartoon Johnny Depp), an insufferable English aristocrat and art dealer of questionable ethics. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Tonight! The Boy Next Door! Sarah was all pissy about it yesterday when we were texting. Her words: “It is sh-t”. Yeah. So? Joanna saw it last night at an advance screening. Her review will be posted later but she emailed me this morning with the following: “You're going to LOVE IT.  Read Full Intro
