Beware spoilers… Rosamund Pike delivers. Amy Dunne is the best part of Gone Girl. But… Amy is F-CKED. She is a psychopath. A sociopath. She is sick, she is twisted, she is evil. Is she? And if she is… so what? We glorify anti-heroes all the time. Michael Corleone is a cultural icon. Full Story

Like I said in the open, I have to see Gone Girl again to really figure out how I feel about it beyond that I think it’s better than the book. When you go though, if you haven’t yet, make sure you build in time afterwards, over coffee or a drink, to talk about it at length with the people/person you see it with. Full Story

Sienna Miller supported her partner Tom Sturridge at the London premiere of Effie Gray this weekend in London. Great print on that dress. They seem happy and relaxed together. Not that it’s any of my goddamn business but I’m relieved to see that. Professionally, it’s not a good time for Sienna to get restless. Full Story

I saw this late Friday afternoon and heard a loud record scratch in my head—Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston are going to star in a television adaptation of John le Carre’s The Night Manager. The show will air on the BBC in the UK and though it does not yet have a US broadcaster, it won’t have any problem getting picked up on this side of the pond. Full Story

It was revealed last week that Joaquin Phoenix will not become Dr Strange after two months of negotiations. This weekend he was at the New York Film Festival, looking very relaxed, representing Doc Sportello, his character in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. And the difference in the two films is pretty much the explanation for why he’s not becoming a superhero. Full Story

Get ready to see Sienna Miller on the Oscar red carpet again. No, really. Last time around, it was February 2004. She was on Jude Law's arm as a shining ingenue - gorgeous in an emerald green Matthew Williamson dress she reportedly co-designed Full Story

The reports came out over two months ago: Joaquin Phoenix negotiating to play Marvel’s Dr Strange. And from very legitimate sources. But all this time has passed and still no confirmation. Everyone agreed it would be good casting. A lot of people were also surprised that he’d taken on such a big budget, big hype project. Full Story

Anne Hathaway covers UK ELLE in advance of the release of Interstellar, expected to be one of the biggest movies of the season. Um. Sarah emailed me the other telling me it’s over 2 hours and 45 minutes…WHAT??? See that’s going to take an entire day of planning for me. To be able to accommodate an almost 3 hour movie, everything else has to be moved around. Full Story

Jesus Bale is back!

One of my favorite things ever is Jesus Bale, or what happens when Christian Bale gets particularly hirsute. How can you not love this? It cracks me up every time. So I’m really excited to see in the new Exodus: Gods & Guyliner trailer that Jesus Bale is making a comeback, and yes, I did little happy claps to see him once again. Full Story

Benedict Cumberbatch gets ahead of the game

Benedict Cumberbatch has a GREAT new interview with TimeOut London in which he talks about both his Oscar chances and the kingmaker grooming him for center stage. The Batch is always an interesting interview for several reasons: 1) He’s 38 and fame came late-ish for him, striking in his mid-thirties after he’d had a chance to fully form—they’re better when it happens that way, as Lainey recently pointed out Full Story
