Last summer Now You See Me, the movie about bank-robbing magicians, trucked to over $117 million at the domestic box office, qualifying it as a sleeper hit. Accordingly, it’s getting a sequel, because movies can no longer stand alone. If it makes even the least little bit of money, it’s going to get sequelized (see also: Hansel & Gretel 2: Hahahaha). Full Story

Gwendoline Christie, though you probably know her as Brienne of Tarth, was named British Actress of the Year last night by Harper's Bazaar. Jaime would be so proud of her. No, really he would. I think? Or does he keep f-cking his sister? Don't tell me! It has indeed been a career year for Gwendoline. Full Story

On Monday I wrote about PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2014. Click here for a refresher. In short, I thought it would probably be either Matthew McConaughey or Chris Pratt, given the year that both have had. PEOPLE just released its cover for this week. Full Story

South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp broke out with District 9 and then whiffed with last year’s Elysium, and now he’s back with Chappie, the story of a robotic artificial intelligence learning how to be a real boy, made for the “low” budget of $60 million and starring Dev Patel, South African rap duo Die Antwoord, a be-mulleted Hugh Jackman, and Sharlto Copley as Pinocchio Johnny 5 Ultron Chappie. Full Story

Since we’ve seen much of Alexander Skarsgard. He was practically invisible during promotion for the final season of True Blood. Work scheduling, of course, of course, of course. But probably not at all disappointed since he’s done with television and in a hurry to become a movie star. Tarzan is what he’s been shooting in England. Full Story

Didn’t we just agree on this? Didn’t we just make a deal that if a project blows two casting rumors that we can stop paying attention to it until it gets it sh*t together? I’m pretty sure we just went over this. And yet, here we are, with yet another casting rumor for the Aaron Sorkin/Danny Boyle Steve Jobs biopic. Full Story

Bale quits Jobs

Christian Bale has cut ties with the Steve Jobs biopic written by Aaron Sorkin and being directed by Danny Boyle—I refuse to make any Bale/bails puns. This is the same project that potentially has Seth Rogen in to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (a really nice piece of casting, if it comes through), and that Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to have passed on in favor of The Revenant. Full Story

Though Nightcrawler opened over the weekend, earning a respectable $10.4 million, Jake Gyllenhaal is still out promoting the movie. Partially because Nightcrawler is the kind of movie that benefits from word of mouth, but also in no small part in service of an Oscar campaign. Full Story

Robert Pattinson loses one but not the girl

A smiling Robert Pattinson was photographed in Toronto yesterday just as news broke that production on Idol’s Eye, his new film (with Robert De Niro, scheduled to start shooting this month), had been shut down because they couldn’t get the funding together. Pattinson will be fine. But it’ll suck for those below the line. Full Story

A Most Violent Year is straight Oscar porn

Writer/director JC Chandor is on a roll. First Margin Call, for which he was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and then the exceptional All Is Lost last year, and now he’s entering this year’s Oscar race with A Most Violent Year starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. The first trailer is out and it’s very promising, showing off Isaac and Chastain as well as David Oyelowo, and setting up a surprisingly moody crime drama. Full Story
