It’s been trailer porn for the last few weeks, non? They’re all rolling out previews for fall releases and award season contenders. This year looks to be a strong one for Actors. When isn’t it a strong year for Actors? Right now, it’s looking like Michael Keaton for Birdman is the only legitimate lock. Full Story

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Joaquin Phoenix was supposedly in negotiations to play Dr Strange for Marvel. No news since then. He’s been working on that new Woody Allen film in Newport with Emma Stone. They were all seen on set yesterday. Maybe they’re haggling over terms? The term most people haggle over is money. Full Story

Superhero Apocalypse Averted

Sarah Posted by Sarah at August 7, 2014 15:19:19 August 7, 2014 15:19:19

May 6, 2016 loomed large, the date on which Marvel and DC would pit their cinematic universes against each other in a billion-dollar death spiral, but in the end, there could be only one. As I predicted months ago, Warner Brothers/DC flinched and Superhero Face Punch has been pushed back to spring—to March 25, 2016 to be exact—taking it out of direct competition with Captain America 3. Full Story

Unless he pulls a Mel Gibson in the next week, Matthew McConaughey is going to win the Emmy for True Detective on August 25. That means he’ll hold the Oscar and the Emmy in the same year. And it brings him half way to EGOT. Could he? A Time To Kill was on last night. Jacek and I stayed up late to watch it because he’d never seen it, never heard McConaughey deliver the closing summation and that line, that disturbingly powerful line: “Now imagine she’s white”. Full Story

I have a Dan Stevens Situation that is under imminent threat of becoming a full-blown Dan Stevens Problem. He was cute in a kind of teddy bear way when he broke out on Downton Abbey, but now he looks like this... … and well, it’s getting to be a thing. Not helping my Dan Stevens Situation is the new trailer for The Guest a thrillerish, horrorish movie that premiered at Sundance to strong reviews. Full Story

Since… the great escape. I mean she’s done some press for makeup here and there, but The Giver is her first major acting project since the divorce. She made the rounds today in New York, first on The Today Show and also on Sirius Radio. Soundbites? Come on, now. It’s Katie Holmes. Full Story

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Fassbender were in New York last night at the premiere of Frank. If you’re looking forward it because Fassbender makes you hard, heads up that he has a bag over his head the entire film. The star of Frank is Domhnall Gleason. One day I’m going to stop calling him Bill Weasley, I promise. Full Story

Elisabeth Moss has been making some solid career choices outside of Mad Men in advance of the series finale. Her performance in Jane Campion’s Top Of The Lake was widely acclaimed. Her new film The One I Love, in theatres this month, is receiving decent reviews. And now it’s being reported that she’s being considered for season 2 of True Detective, alongside Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Full Story

Did you ever see Ruby Sparks? Paul Dano writes Zoe Kazan to life. Sort of. And I’m in love with them in real life. Zoe was here in Toronto a couple of weeks ago with Daniel Radcliffe to promote The F Word (What If outside of Canada). I interviewed her on the red carpet, but not before I saw Paul rush by the press line. Full Story
