Over the last few years—2012, most notably—Jeremy Renner has risen from a That Guy character actor to an almost-bankable movie star. After a string of high-profile blockbusters, he’s been lying low, returning to the character roles that made his name in the first place in movies like The Immigrant and American Hustle. Full Story

This Is Where I Leave You

Duana Posted by Duana at May 29, 2014 15:43:04 May 29, 2014 15:43:04

Who is going to go see This Is Where I Leave You with me? It’s kind of hard to know who to take. I mean, this is not The Hunger Games where the companion had to be carefully thought through and it’s not Pitch Perfect where basically, seeing the movie with me became the prize because I was so delighted with the whole enterprise that I squealed and giggled and chortled and basically it was like those YouTube clips where laughing babies make you laugh. Full Story

Marvel’s divorce fall out

Sarah Posted by Sarah at May 29, 2014 15:10:30 May 29, 2014 15:10:30

Last Friday director Edgar Wright packed his bags and left Marvel, abandoning Ant-Man just weeks before production was set to begin in Atlanta. Ever since then, details have been leaking out steadily, including a new feature from The Hollywood Reporter that confirms that Wright departed over script changes he didn’t approve. Full Story

There is a handful of films I want, kind of desperately, to see in my lifetime, and for some reason, they’re all biopics. They are, in order: Nikola Tesla, Harry Houdini, World War II ladyspies Christine Granville and/or Nancy Wake, and pirates Bartholomew Roberts and Jean Lafitte. Out of all of those, the only one we’re remotely close to seeing is Harry Houdini as there are currently two Houdini projects in development, one at Sony and one at Lionsgate. Full Story

Early morning Tom Cruise

The premiere of Edge Of Tomorrow happened in London today at around 6:30am local. Man, I would be so pissed if I had to get up at ass in the morning to cover that carpet. The reason it started so early is because Tom’s doing press in 3 cities, starting in London, Paris later, and then ending in New York. Full Story

X-Men: Days Of Future Past did big business at the box office this weekend. And while it was definitely a group effort, fully supported by nerds, I do feel like Hugh Jackman has been the face of this effort, the one who carried them all on his back, publicity-wise, and who deserves a lot of credit. Full Story

Tom Cruise was in Rome today to promote Edge Of Tomorrow. He’s doing some kind of whirlwind press tour later this week. London, Paris, New York all in one day. Suzanne sent me an article this morning this morning in support of Cruise, his career, his film choices, and his impact on the industry. Full Story

Amanda Seyfried: getting credit?

Sarah has a nickname for Amanda Seyfried that she uses on this site: oatmeal. I can understand why. But today I actually spent some timing thinking about Amanda Seyfried, her career. And you know what? Her choices don’t really suck. If they do ever suck, she doesn’t have to wear it. Like, we don’t blame her for The Big Wedding. Full Story

Adam Sandler never has to worry

Adam Sandler’s Blended is currently rating at a low 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie opened on Memorial Day weekend lower than expected earning just over $14 million dollars. This should not be a surprise. To anyone. Especially if you’ve seen the trailer. Or, you know, any of his last 5 or 6 or more movies. Full Story

Sean Penn tags along

Charlize Theron is currently promoting A Million Ways To Die In The West. Yesterday she was in London. And Sean Penn has come along with her on the press tour. They went out for dinner holding hands. They embraced inside the restaurant. It was pretty evident that photographers were around. Do you remember him tagging along with Robin Wright on publicity travel? Robin certainly didn’t have the schedule Charlize does and she definitely wasn’t working as much when she and Sean were together. Full Story

Marvel: Still scary

Sarah Posted by Sarah at May 27, 2014 14:43:18 May 27, 2014 14:43:18

Scarlett Johansson has a movie coming out later this summer, Lucy, and it looks pretty cool.  It was originally slated to come out on August 8th, which made a lot of sense. The movie looks entertaining, if not actually good, and those kinds of softy action films usually do pretty well in the slightly less competitive month of August. Full Story
