Lost River was booed yesterday in Cannes. I mean there was some applause. But the jeering was much louder. Dear Gossips,

I interviewed Angelina Jolie yesterday. I’ve interviewed her before (Kung Fu Panda 2), but never for that long and also never alone. Makes a big difference. Like, I still feel her in my blood. And I think, I think I made her laugh.  Read Full Intro

A selection of shots of Robert Pattinson in Cannes is attached. Pattinson was at the festival representing two films – first The Rover and then David Cronenberg’s Maps To The Stars. Super serious space movie

Sarah Posted by Sarah at May 20, 2014 15:24:17 May 20, 2014 15:24:17

Do you remember the fake Anna Scott movie in Notting Hill? It was like a super serious space movie, and the little in-movie clip was of Anna Scott looking super serious, in space. That’s what I thought of as I watched the first trailer fir Christopher Nolan’s latest, Interstellar. It looks like a super serious space movie—it looks like Notting Hill. Full Story

Hooked on a feeling

Guardians of the Galaxy has always been described as Marvel’s biggest risk to date, which is really saying something when you consider they bet their studio’s future against Iron Man’s success back when RDJ was still uninsurable. But making what amounts to the Marvel version of Spaceballs trumps even that risk, which means there are a lot of nerves from a lot of different directions surrounding Guardians. Full Story

Ryan Gosling has returned to Cannes, this time as a director. He and several members of his Lost River cast, including Christina Hendricks and Matt Smith, were at the photo call today to represent the film. Haven’t read any reviews yet. I’ll do a pick up on this with the carpet shots from the Palais when critics start releasing their comments. Full Story

At the Foxcatcher photo call today in Cannes – Mark Ruffalo, Channing Tatum, Steve Carell, with director Bennett Miller ahead of the big premiere and looking very confident after the press screenings. Miller delivers great work, work that’s worth waiting for. Last time it was Moneyball which went on to receive several Oscar nominations. Full Story

“Godzilla is poised to be a breakout hit in May. I hope it overachieves.” That’s me, on April 9. One month later, Godzilla is breakout hit, crushing the box office with the year-to-date’s second-biggest opening of $93.2 million. Full Story

Ryan Reynolds, Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, and Mireille Enos joined director Atom Egoyan at the photo call for their film The Captive today in Cannes. They all look great. Unfortunately the film…was not well received. Grace Of Monaco was already a bust at the festival and it looks like The Captive is getting similar reviews. Full Story

Charlize Theron’s plus one

Lainey Posted by Lainey at May 16, 2014 15:57:31 May 16, 2014 15:57:31

These two. Charlize Theron showed up to the premiere of A Million Ways To Die In The West hand in hand with her boyfriend Sean Penn last night. Her boyfriend Sean Penn. Hand in hand. Smiling at each other. And he’s SMILING at her. And the cameras too. And looking up at her adoringly. And no one got hurt. Full Story
