I deleted the knowledge that Tom Hiddleston is voicing Captain Hook in the latest Tinkerbell movie for Disney. It is in no way relevant to me, a grown-ass woman who does not have children to whom I must cater. So when Lainey emailed me about covering a new Tom Hiddleston trailer, I was thinking it was more Only Lovers Left Alive, or perhaps an advertisement for Coriolanus, which opens this week on London’s West End. Full Story

Never. But I do love the comments he made last night at the premiere of The Railway Man in London. It’s the true story of Eric Lomax who was captured during the Second World War, tortured, and made to work on Thai-Burma railway. Many years later he decided to confront his tormentor. Lomax is survived by his wife Patti who praised Full Story

Mrs Timberlake was out last night at the premiere for her film The Truth About Emmanuel which screened at Sundance and is currently available On Demand. A theatrical release will follow in January, which is typically where/when movies go to die. But, you know, it’s hard out there for an “indie” actress. Full Story

The Hollywood Reporter put Benedict Cumberbatch on the cover a few months ago, declaring him officially part of the A List. Click here to read Sarah’s piece at the time. All signs did indeed point, then, to it being the Year of Cumberbatch, especially since The Fifth Estate was about to screen at TIFF and everyone was already talking Oscar. Full Story

The first full trailer has just been released. Andrew Garfield was wonderful as Peter Parker in the first (not really the first but the re-first) installment. And he’s just as appealing here as Peter grows more self-assured with his powers and responsibilities. Also, there’s an adorable flirting scene between him and Emma Stone. Full Story

Make room for Her

Well now this race is all over the place. The National Board of Review just announced its list and Best Picture went to… Spike Jonzes’s Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix and featuring Scarlett Johansson’s voice. Apparently Scarjo’s work in this film is so wonderful, there are those who believe she should be nominated for an acting award even though she doesn’t actually appear onscreen. Full Story

A month after casting speculation emerged regarding a female role in Batman vs. Superman that was assumed to be Wonder Woman, though I was skeptical, we now know two things for sure. 1) The role is, in fact, Wonder Woman, and 2) she will be played by Gal Gadot. Full Story

American Hustle screened last night. Jennifer Lawrence was not there in person...but they felt her presence. What great timing. Or, perhaps they strategically chose the date of the New York Film Critics Circle's announcement of their winners to make their premiere. The NYFCC named American Hustle and NOT 12 Years A Slave as Best Picture giving the Oscar race a major shakeup. Full Story

The New York Film Critics Circle just named Jared Leto Best Supporting Actor for his work in Dallas Buyers Club. It’s almost a given now that he’ll receive an Oscar nomination. Right now, a lot of experts predict he could actually take it, especially since Michael Fassbender is refusing to campaign. Full Story

Two members of my 5 List were recognised at the Gotham Awards last night. Oscar Isaac was there representing Inside Llewyn Davis which won Best Film. And Michael B Jordan was named Breakthrough Actor. Early on in the season, especially after Cannes, both were considered to have a shot at an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Full Story

Jeremy Renner’s Movie Star Mulligan

December 3, 2013 15:06:02 Posted at December 3, 2013 15:06:02
Sarah Posted by Sarah

Remember how last year Jeremy Renner was everywhere, trying to be a movie star, and that the centerpiece of his campaign was a Bourne movie that didn’t star Jason Bourne? Well, the strategy kinda sorta worked. The movie, The Bourne Legacy (aka the non-Bourne Bourne), did well enough Full Story
