Yet another trailer from a possible award season contender. According to Deadline, Universal decided to release the film in December because the studio believes that it could factor into the Best Picture race. Look, I know it’s early, but we are now in the business of trying to hype this sh-t as much and as early as possible until we are all exhausted from the speculation, OK? Anyway, this is our first look at Lone Survivor, based on the true story of a group of Navy SEALS sent into a failed mission. Full Story

The Hollywood Reporter just posted a new interview with Wes Bentley in which he, once again, discusses his addiction and eventual comeback. RDJ had to do this for a while when he finally got clean and it’s been the same for Bentley. Like RDJ, he wears it graciously, taking full ownership and accountability for what happened. Full Story

I have pictures to burn off of my subscription for the last day of the month. Thank you Jennifer Aniston for facilitating this. Jen’s in New York, AS YOU KNOW, filming Squirrels For The Nuts. She shot a scene with Rhys Ifans and a German shepherd where they’re both talking on their cell phones. Full Story

Sarah wrote earlier that this award season is looking stacked, with one prestige film after another releasing impressive-looking trailers as we approach both the Venice and Toronto film festivals and then heavy campaigning this fall. Remember, the Oscars aren’t until March 2014 because of the Olympics. Full Story

It’s not even August and the award season slate is already jam-packed with likely looking titles like 12 Years a Slave, Mandela, the Tom Hanks double feature of Captain Phillips and Saving Mr. Banks, The Butler, Gravity, The Fifth Estate, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fruitvale Station, Dallas Buyers Club, and if there is a just and loving cinema god, Blackfish will be considered for Best Picture, not just as a documentary. Full Story

Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium was featured on a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. Jess Cagle writes in the editor’s note that many of the box office disappointments this year were unoriginal movies. Even the ones who weren’t sequels, like The Lone Ranger and After Earth, were basically just recycled versions of the stars’ previous releases. Full Story

When I wrote about the first Snowpiercer trailer (there is now a second one that is only slightly more illuminating), I mentioned that The Weinstein Company bought it, and that if it caught Harvey Weinstein’s eye, it had to be more than just the action movie the trailer was making it out to be. Full Story

Check out brand new shots of Tom Hardy in costume as a Russian officer on location in the Czech Republic on Sunday with Noomi Rapace shooting a new movie called Child 44. Does he make movies without Noomi anymore? Does Noomi make movies without him, or a lookalike of him (Logan Marshall-Green) anymore? Although he looks really pale and pasty, I don’t mind my Tom Hardy in uniform. Full Story

Brange went to Tokyo to promote In The Land Of Blood And Honey and World War Z. They had three of their six kids with them – Pax, Vivienne, and Knox. Again… HOWWWWWWWWWW is it decided? WHOOOOOO makes the decision? Is it a family vote? Is it because Miss Zahara shrugged from the boredom of having already been to Japan a few times before? It is because the Chosen One Shiloh would rather stay home and play MMA fighters with her big brother Maddox? Anyway, as you can see, in addition to bringing half their brood, Brange also brought the Pitt Porn to Tokyo. Full Story

Keanu Reeves’ long-awaited samurai epic 47 Ronin finally has a trailer and it’s AWFUL. It’s an awful trailer for an awful looking movie. I wish I had a word beyond “awful” both for how terrible the trailer is and how terrible the movie looks.   Let’s tackle the trailer first, starting with the interstitial cards that read “An outcast…exiled,” which is redundant as “outcast” and “exiled” are synonymous. Full Story

Someone recently suggested Rosamund Pike for a Career Prospectus. Don’t think she needs one anymore, do you? According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s been offered the role of Amy Dunne in the film adaptation of Gone Girl to be directed by David Fincher and also starring Ben Affleck. Full Story
