EL James, the author of Fifty Shades Of Grey, announced yesterday that she’d found an actress to play her in her fantasy with Robert Pattinson. Dakota Johnson will be Anastasia Steele. Charlie Hunnan is Christian Grey. So the biggest move of his career is a replacement for Robert Pattinson. What was your motivation Charlie? Imagining EL James imagining Pattinson going down on Kristen Stewart, basically. Full Story

Tom Hardy was in Venice this weekend to promote his new film Locke. The timing could not be better. Because the last time we talked about Tom Hardy it was about his Twitter account. And that f-cking video. Click here for a refresher if you have to but if you couldn’t un-see it the first time, I don’t know why you would want to a second time. Full Story

Mia Wasikowska walked the carpet in black last night at the Venice Film Festival for Tracks. The reviews have been solid and, once again, Wasikowska has delivered a fine performance, re-confirming her status as one of the most talented young actresses of her generation. Tracks will also screen at TIFF. Full Story

Armie Hammer was supposed to be a big time movie star by now. Only The Lone Ranger didn’t deliver. But, you know, that was the critics’ fault. Blame them. If the critics didn’t take a dump on the movie, would Armie Hammer have had a shot at Batman? According to Sarah, he was actually supposed to be Batman once a few years ago for a project that fell apart. Full Story

The Avengers have their Ultron, the psychotic rampaging robot who tries to destroy humanity, and they’ve found him in the form of James Spader. *record scratch* What a WEIRD pick. But weird/good, not weird/bad. It’s just so out of left field. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

A change in format today. I have press all day for The Social, our upcoming afternoon talk show premiering on Monday on CTV in Canada. We start at 6am ET with interviews every half hour or so. Normally I try to structure my work schedule to accommodate for blogging but this time it was impossible.  Read Full Intro

Gravity might be great. Rapturous early reviews are coming out of the Venice Film Festival where Sandra Bullock and George Clooney presented the film for the first time yesterday. The film is being called a visual masterpiece, in particular its 13 minute opening – a single shot. This, then, is not The Great Gatsby. Full Story

I have a love/hate relationship with horror movies; the love stems from a childhood spent watching Hitchcock, Vincent Price and Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the hate comes from the late trend of torture porn that’s strictly about the fetishizing of female fear for consumption by a predominantly male audience. Full Story

The Fifth Estate opens TIFF a week tomorrow. Am kind of curious to see how many of Benedict Cumberbatch’s fans show up at Roy Thomson Hall that night. And what level of Twi-Hard they reach. Like will they be breaking into all the hotels in the vicinity? Will they offer up their babies to him to hold? (This happened with Brad Pitt a few years ago. Full Story

James McAvoy will be at TIFF with Jessica Chastain for a preview of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her/Him. The last time he was at TIFF we had a cigarette out the window. I think he’s quit now. Or maybe he’s switched to e-cigs like me. So we no longer have to hang out of windows. Full Story

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are kicking off the Venice Film Festival tonight with Gravity. Here they are at the photocall this afternoon. Now WHYYYYYYYYYYY can’t this be more than friends? They clearly like each other. And if the physical is any indication, they seem to bring out the best in each other. Full Story
