That’s the name of the movie. It’s a good one, for serious. And I hope they don’t change it. They just changed the name of Tom Cruise’s All You Need Is Kill to Edge Of Tomorrow, which is dumb. Anyway, Squirrels To The Nuts is being directed by Peter Bogdanovich, his first film in 10 years. Full Story

Deadline posted an article earlier this week about the upcoming award season and the possibility that it might actually be more diverse this year than it has been, maybe, ever. Fruitvale opens this weekend after coming out strong from Sundance. Then there’s The Butler, and Twelve Years A Slave, and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Full Story

Spike Lee’s Oldboy

Sarah Posted by Sarah at July 12, 2013 18:30:18 July 12, 2013 18:30:18

One of the most crazily violent, and just plain crazy, movies I’ve seen is Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy, a classic of South Korean action cinema from 2003. It’s a twisted story of torture and revenge, loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo, with some of the most memorable action sequences you’ll see (the hammer!). Full Story

Tom Hanks wants that third Oscar

Sarah Posted by Sarah at July 12, 2013 15:25:52 July 12, 2013 15:25:52

He must be thinking, “Daniel Day-Lewis has three. Why not me?” First in October, Tom Hanks has Paul Greengrass’s Captain Phillips, about the Maersk Alabama’s crew being taken hostage by Somali pirates, which is sure to be a tense and heroic turn for Hanks. And then in December he’s starring as Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Full Story

F-ck Henry Cavill, OK? When even one half of My Obsession is around, Henry Cavill can wait. Aaron Taylor-Johnson spent a couple of months in Vancouver shooting Godzilla. Production on the film has been moved to Oahu, Hawaii. Check him out, all American army buffed and, at the same time, British pale. Full Story

Uneasy is the head that wears the crown It would apply to Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, once all kings of the box office. For now though, RDJ’s reign seems pretty secure. He was first out with Iron Man 3. They came, they tried, they were turned away. It’s unlikely now that any other movie this year will match or exceed Tony Stark’s take. Full Story

If you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you know I’ve been selling you on Michael B Jordan. Of The Wire, of Friday Night Lights, and now, of Fruitvale which is generating a lot of great buzz out of Sundance and opens this weekend in select cities but, f-ck, not mine. The Hollywood Reporter called him the next Denzel Washington – click here Full Story

My Marvel/Vin Diesel nightmare

Sarah Posted by Sarah at July 10, 2013 18:57:14 July 10, 2013 18:57:14

I cannot stand Vin Diesel. CANNOT. STAND. I don’t have a good reason for it. (Lainey: I have several.) It’s just an irrational hatred that sprang from sitting through one too many of his terrible movies. I love bad action movies, and have an unusually high tolerance for the special brand of sh*tty actor that often stars in them, but Diesel is a charisma black hole that destroys everything around him, including my will to live when I’m watching one of his movies. Full Story

Keira Knightley’s been in Seattle shooting Laggies. She stepped in to replace Anne Hathaway who decided to work on Song One instead, produced by her husband Adam Shulman. Does it seem like those two keep getting crossed in the mail? Becoming Jane/Pride & Prejudice, both were up for Selena Kyle, Steve Carell movies, and should Keira have played Emma Morley in One Day? Anyway, Keira’s back in in London now, with her husband of two months, James Righton, seen here today arm in arm, in newlywed mode and enjoying the summer. Full Story

Yet. Ever? As you know, Henry Cavill is no longer with Gina Carano. He’s now with the Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco. Because he’s Superman and a movie star now…? Man Of Steel is a Warner Bros property. So is Pacific Rim, starring Charlie Hunnam who’s been dating jeweller designer Morgana for a few years now. Full Story
