Deadline just reported that Julianne Moore is being considered to play President Coin in Mockingjay which will be split into two movies because they’re all money-grabbers now. It started with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows. I’m a Potter fan so you’re welcome to accuse me of bias but that book was so dense, with actual action, at the time it was understandable. Full Story

When Mean Girls Grow Up

Maria Posted by Maria at June 27, 2013 14:15:51 June 27, 2013 14:15:51

It’s been almost a decade since Mean Girls. Ten years! How is that even possible? While some of the cast - Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler - have risen through the ranks to become the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, we also have that movie to thank (blame?) for the 10-year spectacle that is Lindsay Lohan. Full Story

They were in The Avengers together, but not really. It’s been 10 years since View From The Top. Is that all? I feel like my G would want it to be longer. So that she/we could forget. Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo worked together on View From The Top. And they worked together again on Thanks For Sharing which will finally be released in September so… I guess that’s why Vanity Fair is profiling/maybe slam-piecing her? G once said of her role in View From The Top that: "I'm in underwear for half the movie. Full Story

Channing Tatum, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jamie Foxx were in New York last night at the premiere of White House Down. They’re pushing hard the last few days before the movie opens this weekend. Reviews for White House Down are coming out now. They range from terrible Full Story

I watched Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never on a plane. LOVED it. This was before. Before, you know, now. And don’t knock it until you see it. Because that’s everyone’s reaction…until they see it. So...this is.. This Is Us, One Direction’s version of Never Say Never, but I’m not supposed to say that because both the Beliebers and the Directioners won’t like it. Full Story

The stars shine on Channing Tatum

I wrote about blind spots in today’s open. Channing Tatum has become my blind spot. As far as I’m concerned right now, Channing Tatum can do no wrong, even if his movie is sh-t. Really. How many people in the last 3 years have played it better than Channing Tatum? Great strategery AND even crazier, he’s NICE. Full Story

Are you thanking me? Because you’re welcome. For Idris Elba. I want you to look at this man. Look. At. This. Man. (And don’t think about his rap-singing.) This man was at Letterman yesterday promoting Luther Season 3. Do you watch Luther? I’m into Luther. Luther is my private, maybe a little pervy, OK a lot pervy, pleasure. Full Story

Bardem, Cruz, Diaz, Fassbender, Pitt

How would you rank that cast in order of “importance”? Fassbender, on history, given that he’s only been famous (and he’s not THAT famous, considering the rest) for 3 or 4 years or so, would have to come last, right? Alphabetical seems most fair. The film is Ridley Scott’s The Counselor. Full Story

Have you heard Bill Burr’s take on Steve Jobs? If not, you can watch it here. Burr can be pretty incendiary, but I’m kind of with him on his assessment of the Jesusification of Steve Jobs. I do think Jobs was a true visionary and that it was his point of view that guided Apple over the years more than any other—just look how badly the company floundered without him when he was forced out in 1985—but I also get his point about the way Apple was marketed. Full Story

World War Z’s triumph of mediocrity

I’m in the middle of a horrible bout of food poisoning on the same weekend World War Z beat projections and earned an estimated $66 million at the domestic box office. Even if those numbers end up a little high, it’s still way better than the official projection of $40 million. World War Z, toothless adaptation of a beloved zombie classic, is a hit and Sarah is puking her guts out. Full Story

In the wake of the announcement that Sony had pre-emptively greenlit two more Spider-Man movies with Andrew Garfield, it was also announced that Shailene Woodley, cast as Mary Jane Watson, was being cut from Spider-Man 2. At first, this wasn’t that big a deal. With two more movies to flesh out, taking time between love interests wouldn’t be a bad idea, and Woodley’s initial comments Full Story
