We miss him...but... I’m not sure if he really misses us. Because he’s busy. He’s working a lot. And he’s working very, very well. Here’s Kyle Chandler at the premiere of Zero Dark Thirty in New York last night with Kathryn Bigelow and Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke. Full Story

Benedict Cumberbatch Treks into Darkness

I cannot stop making fun of the Star Trek 2 title, Star Trek Into Darkness. It sounds like an Annie Lennox song. “When the world ends/And hope is lost/We will rise again/Star Trek Into Darkness/Yeah/Star Trek Into Darkness”. In my head, it’s set to an 80s synth beat, at least as good as the Skyfall theme. Full Story

Matthew McConaughey’s Oscar

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 4, 2012 16:00:09 December 4, 2012 16:00:09

(Click here for Sarah’s Nostradamus on Matthew McConaughey. As I said then, she’s a big ball hitter.) Back in May in my Cannes preview, I noted that Matthew McConaughey was having a busy year, with five movies, including Cannes’ selections Mud and The Paperboy. Full Story

Rachel Weisz takes out Hushpuppy

The New York Film Critics Circle dropped a big surprise on award season yesterday in naming Rachel Weisz Best Actress for her performance in The Deep Blue Sea. Very, very few of the “Oscarologists” had her on their lists for the five nominee spots with the exception of Michael Musto from The Village Voice which, in hindsight, now totally makes sense. Full Story

Marvel’s “Phase 2” is underway with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in production and set for release next year, kicking off a slate of movies leading up to The Avengers 2 in 2015. Most of these are sequels to the Phase 1 movies, but they will be introducing new heroes to the roster in Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, which, according to Deadline, is closing in on casting its lead, Peter Quill/Star-Lord. Full Story

Definitely a fairy tale

As I wrote last week, Winter’s Tale is about an orphan called Peter whose best friend is a white horse and he falls in love with a sick girl, Beverly. Here’s Colin Farrell as Peter, on his white horse, riding around with Lady Sybil as Beverly, who has long wavy red hair that blows elegantly in the wind, and they’re surrounded by autumn leaves in Central Park and they’re being chased by a dark spirit, over logs and ravines, and with her arms wrapped around his waist, breathing in his earthy woody scent, she feels safe, despite the proximity of the danger, even as the score quickens during the scene. Full Story

This week it was the directors’ turn to roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter. Last week Maria wrote about the Actress Roundtable, pointing out that Anne Hathaway is like jazz hands through the entire video. Click here for a refresher. Have you watched the directors? Ben Affleck, to me, is like Anne Hathaway among the directors. Full Story

In the wake of the monster success of The Avengers, Warner Brothers announced they will be bringing DC Comics’ own superhero super group, the Justice League, to the big screen. (Hilariously, they will attempt to do this in the same year that The Avengers 2 comes out.)  The Justice League includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, the Green Lantern and Aquaman, three of which have already been or are soon to be introduced in solo movies. Full Story

Look at you, you sneaky motherf-cker. The Spirit Award nominations were announced on November 27 and in all the debate about Silver Linings Playbook and whether or not it should have been considered and if Harvey Weinstein bullied them into it, Matthew McConaughey’s two nominations seemed to be overlooked: Best Actor in Killer Joe Best Supporting Actor in Magic Mike Sarah went balls out and predicted Full Story

At least, that’s the impression the world premiere in Wellington yesterday gives. The red carpet was over 500 yards, running the length of several city blocks, and the crowd was estimated at 100,000. The cast arrived earlier in the week in a plane plastered with the faces of hobbits and dwarves, there was a “hobbit artisanal market” in downtown Wellington in the days before the premiere and thousands of people actually went there; the airport now has a giant Gollum sculpture Full Story

Beasts Of The Southern Wild will be released on DVD next week, on December 4th. Have you seen it? I highly, highly recommend. Now this is the work of an exciting new director. His name is Benh Zeitlin and his leading lady might be nominated for an Oscar. It looks like they’re working hard, on what has to be a limited budget, to make that happen. Full Story
