You have GOT to be kidding me with Miley Cyrus

Sarah Posted by Sarah

Over the last year I’ve seen several gossips—Lainey included—state that Miley “Smoke pot? Not me, never!” Cyrus has earned some affection by drawing down her public persona and making some effort at being a more mature pop tartlet. I’ve disagreed all along, issuing a strong BITCH, PLEASE caution to those jumping on the Miley train. Full Story

It was all over the internet last night...Twitch first reported that Taylor Swift and Amanda Seyfried have been offered the parts of Eponine and Cosette respectively in Tom Hooper’s upcoming Les Miserables, scheduled to start shooting in March. Seyfried I can live with, and even welcome, as Cosette. As for Eponine. Full Story

I was quick to jump on the US Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie bandwagon after the first trailers were released. I was ready to love it. To be super impressed. To fangirl over a version that I initially labelled unnecessary. Then I saw it. Dragon Tattoo Girl For America is a solid B+. It’s good. It’s watchable. Full Story

Channing Tatum is really growing on me

And it feels really bizarre to say that. (Lainey: Please note this article was written by Sarah.) It all started with a radio interview with him and Jamie Bell during promotion for that Eagle movie they made. I listened and found myself thinking, You know, Channing Tatum isn't that bad. Since then, I've gained an appreciation for him. Full Story

Who decided to drop a trailer after Batman?

There’s a marketing misstep if ever I saw one. Summer 2012 is stacked with high-profile franchise releases including The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and one of the more mysterious entries, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Set in the same universe as Scott’s classic Alien, it’s a prequel but not really—the events take place before those of Alien, but the story isn’t directly related. Full Story

Get out of the way

You build for the summer at Christmas. Which is why the studios have been rolling out trailers for all their summer blockbusters. Today, the big one arrived: The Dark Knight Rises.I don’t think Michael Caine could have delivered that line with any more emotion. Right off the top he made me want to cry. Full Story

Reese Witherspoon: Serious, not sexy

Speaking of studying celebrity career moves...Reese Witherspoon is an interesting case. She's popular, not a bad actress, an Oscar winner. Yet the last few years she's eroded a lot of goodwill by making a string of bad movies. Even in this year's Water for Elephants, which wasn't bad, she was the weakest link. Full Story

Christian Bale vs China

Christian Bale has been in China promoting The Flowers Of War. I’ve written about the film here and here, the “first time a domestically-funded Chinese movie has placed a Hollywood actor in a leading role” with the transparent intent for the Chinese film industry to go aggressively global, much like many of its other industries. Full Story

A couple months ago, Marvel Studios announced that Patty Jenkins, director of Monster, would be in charge of Thor 2, which was very exciting as it was only the second time a woman would be in charge of a superhero tent pole project (Lexi Alexander was the first to do so with Punisher: War Zone—this would’ve been the first time a woman was in charge of a superhero movie with the potential to actually be good). Full Story

The first stills from Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby were released yesterday featuring a really, REALLY hot Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby holding on to Carey Mulligan’s Daisy. Like, really hot. Like, SO HOT. Like, maybe the hottest photo taken of him in many, many years. (I know you’re there Lorella. Full Story
