Aaron Taylor-Johnson (that’s the first time I’ve called him that and it feels so good) has been missing from the Savages red carpets. He was a no-show in LA and he wasn’t around for the one in NY last night either. The easy answer is because of the wedding. As reported last week - click here Full Story

OMG an honest press release!

That was my reaction to Friday’s announcement from Universal about kicking The Bourne Legacy back a week in order to get out of the wake of The Dark Knight Rises, which opens only three weeks before Bourne’s original August 3 release date. Pushing back a week gives Bourne a little bit more breathing room, though they’re still banking on Dark Knight breaking by week four, which, when it comes to the monster blockbusters, is no guarantee. Full Story

Or so the numbers people say. Two weeks out from The Amazing Spider-Man’s opening, and the trades are reporting that it’s tracking for a $120+ million holiday opening—it’ll span the long July 4 weekend in the US—showing strong interest from men and boys and decent awareness from younger girls, but not so much the 25 and over female crowd. Full Story

If you’re a daily reader, you know I’ve been asking about this often, especially the last few weeks as many of the expected Best Picture contenders are rolling out their campaigns. Here, finally, is the first trailer for Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina, screenplay by Tom Stoppard, starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, and so many more. Full Story

Loved the first trailer for The Master. Click here for a refresher. Have you seen the second? Last time the focus was on Joaquin Phoenix, the follower. This time we meet the leader, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who appears to be at his most brilliant in a role they say is based on L Ron Hubbard. Full Story

For some reason, seeing the Jolie in costume as Maleficent in England today surrounded by bulls (I think they’re bulls but if they’re not I apologise - I am terrible at identifying animals) reminded me of True Blood Season 2 and that crazy ass maenad Maryanne. Wasn’t she really horny for a divine bull or something? God I hated that storyline so much. Full Story

Don’t bet against The Lone Ranger

One of my absolute favorite movie-business memories is an oldie but a goodie: the expression on the faces of Disney executives after they got their first look at Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. I will never ever forget that look. It was what the F*CK and I don’t get it and OMG he really is crazy and we’re going to lose SO MUCH MONEY rolled into one. Full Story

This is Maleficent Jolie

Disney just sent out a press release this morning announcing that production on Maleficent began on June 13 with Angelina Jolie in the title role. Interestingly enough, for a big ass deal like this, the film’s director is an amateur. Robert Stromberg has won 2 Oscars for production design (Avatar, Alice In Wonderland), but this is his first time running the show. Full Story

World War Z: Nightmare movie

A nightmare movie is a movie on which everything goes wrong. And when I say everything, I mean everything. If it’s a miserable experience from start to finish, with hellish development and post-production periods to boot, then it’s a nightmare movie. Famous nightmare movies include Jaws and The Hurt Locker, so it’s not necessarily a death sentence, since sometimes you end up striking gold under all the sh*t. Full Story
