Vera the director

Love Vera Farmiga. Sometimes she dresses like a crazy person though. Remember this? Vera did much better on the cover of the new issue of NUVO Magazine. Beautiful. My favourite story about Vera is how honest she is about Up In The Air, specifically that she’d just had a baby before starting work on it and the studio called over - God studio executives are assholes - and wanted her to lose more weight. Full Story

Knocked Up was a big hit for Katherine Heigl. But that wasn’t her movie. And, as she subsequently noted, she, um, wasn’t proud of that movie anyway. I wonder if she’s proud of any of her movies...? Like, is she proud of Killers??? It was 27 Dresses that really established Katherine Heigl as a “movie star” . Full Story

This must just be a bad trailer

It happens. A bad first trailer followed by an awesome second one and the film ends up being really, really good. Because on paper, Clint Eastwood + Leonardo DiCaprio + Judi Dench and a Dustin Lance Black screenplay, it’s an Oscar automatic, right? J Edgar was being called an Oscar automatic from the very beginning. Full Story

You’ll have to excuse the huge Canadian flag plastered all over this article. It’s just... there was a lot of swagger to go around last night at the opening of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival as Bono and the Edge arrived to screen Davis Guggenheim’s From The Sky Down, a documentary about Achtung Baby, the album that brought the band back from the brink. Full Story

Oh hello Bruce Wayne

While Ali Lohan’s busy trying to turn her face into Anne Hathaway’s, the real Anne Hathaway, inspired by Sabrina, was at work on the set of The Dark Knight Rises in LA. I love the name Sabrina. More people should be called Sabrina. Anne does Audrey a lot more convincingly than Jennifer Love Hewitt, non? Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne was also shooting yesterday. Full Story

You horny broads seemed to enjoy it last week. And since Michael Fassbender was in Venice for Shame, in addition to David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, more photos are available to start the new week. They’re saying he gives a searing performance in Shame directed by Steve McQueen. They’re saying his portrayal of a sex addict shows the promise of an actor who may be the heir to. Full Story

The Big Hammer and all his friends

The cast of The Avengers took over Central Park today in New York. There’s Thor Chris Hemsworth walking around with his big hammer. Can you imagine how ridiculous that would feel? I know it’s movie making and suspension of disbelief but, you know, when he’s just standing around without context, it’s really just a dude who got dressed up with his big hammer. Full Story

Did you see A History of Violence? How about Eastern Promises? Good things happen when David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen make movies together. This time it’s A Dangerous Method. The photo call happened in Venice earlier today. Cronenberg was joined by his cast. Because of the time difference, the premiere photos will likely hit the agencies in the next couple of hours. Full Story

Madonna arrived in Venice today at the photo call for W.E. along with Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish. I am already obsessed with Andrea Riseborough. Look at that face! Fresh and beguiling, non? And can you believe it’s the same girl you saw in these Vanity Fair photos Full Story

Man of Steel suit

Last week we saw the red cape - click here for a refresher. Yesterday in Plano, Illinois, now being shot as Smallville, the suit revealed itself, and tightly, on the body of Henry Cavill. I’ve already said that it doesn’t do it for me seeing men in underwear and leotard with their bulges on display. Full Story
