But first... A quick update on the Loser of 2012, Lindsay Lohan. Lohan bailed on Barbara Walters on the good advice of her new PR team. Instead she’s doing The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Barbara is mad. And she played a clip from Part 1 of their interview, conducted in the summer, on The View: Conversations with people like this are infuriating. Full Story

Atonement. Remember how gross Benedict Cumberbatch was in Atonement? It’s a testament to his skill as an actor but I can’t help but hold it against him anyway. Poor Robbie took the fall for Paul’s underage creeping! Can you be TOO good at your job? Atonement was the second time James McAvoy and Cumberbatch worked together, having previously co-starred in Starter For Ten which I quite liked and think is underrated though I can’t remember Bendy in it at all. Full Story

Les Miserables Vogue

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 12, 2012 19:20:50 November 12, 2012 19:20:50

And here we are, another year of American Vogue covers, and none of them featured Victoria Beckham. Anne Hathaway is December, understandably. She is Wintour-approved, and Valentino-approved, and she is the star of one of the most highly anticipated movies of the season, my favourite movie of the year, Les Miserables, which just happens to open at Christmas. Full Story

Warm Bodies: The zombie rom-com you didn’t know you wanted

Sarah Posted by Sarah at November 12, 2012 18:17:50 November 12, 2012 18:17:50

A year ago I wrote about the adaptation of Isaac Marion’s Warm Bodies, a YA novel about a zombie who falls in love and rediscovers his humanity along the way. At the time, I noted, “it has the chance to appeal to a broader audience [than Twilight] because the romance isn’t the main focus of the story. Full Story

According to most experts who are called on to predict these things, Jennifer Lawrence, right now, early in the Oscar race, is the frontrunner to win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. (I keep having to remind myself to remove the “The” before the title. Full Story

Seriously, how long can Tom Cruise do this?

The first image from Tom Cruise’s upcoming film, All You Need is Kill, was just released and while the image is not enlightening re: plot (it’s just a shot of Cruise in a futuristic mech suit running away from fire), there was a brief plot description included. Based on the Japanese graphic novel of the same name, All You Need is Kill is about a soldier who relives his last suicide mission over and over until he’s able to defeat an alien army. Full Story

Daniel Day-Lewis was honoured the other night at BAFTA LA. Have you seen his acceptance speech? It was dedicated to Clint Eastwood’s Obama chair. The President had just won re-election the night before. Conservatives were in a tailspin. And here’s a British actor taking the piss out of a Hollywood legend. Full Story

World War Z, nightmare movie, is a MESS

Sarah Posted by Sarah at November 9, 2012 16:42:51 November 9, 2012 16:42:51

I recently re-read World War Z to see if it was as good as I remembered. I hadn’t read it for a few years and I got to thinking—maybe I’m over-selling it, maybe it’s not as good as I recall. So I re-read the book, and then I re-read JM Straczynski’s 2008 draft of the script, and no, I wasn’t over-selling it, and it was every bit as good as I remembered. Full Story

Everybody sings!

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 8, 2012 22:03:19 November 8, 2012 22:03:19

Duana left early this morning for a meeting and then I rushed off to the airport to come to New York so... We didn’t get to watch this new Les Miserables trailer together holding hands! We didn’t get to watch this new Les Miserables trailer together and cry! This time they all sing. Full Story

This conversation occurred on October 31 between Michael Bay and Marc Evans, president of production at Paramount. Evans replaced Brad Weston just days after this conversation in 2010. Once again, this is 100% accurate*, and the conversation took place on a fan boat in a swimming pool. Full Story
