Here are Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth at the London premiere of Gambit tonight. Gambit will be released in the UK on November 21. I haven’t been able to find a US date yet which isn’t a good sign. And, as I wrote last month, if you’ve seen the trailer, that probably doesn’t surprise you. Full Story

Les Miserables on Election Night

Lainey Posted by Lainey at November 7, 2012 16:00:00 November 7, 2012 16:00:00

Two new tv spots were released yesterday for Les Miserables, my favourite movie of the year. I already know it will be. I know I will love it. There is no way I won’t love it. The clips were broadcast across several networks during election coverage. Anyway, obviously, I cried during both. Full Story

Jim Sturgess was photographed on the set of Electric Slide yesterday in LA. It’s the true story about a dude from the 80s who sold furniture but also robbed banks on the side because he thought that might turn on his girlfriend. Isabel Lucas plays the girlfriend. Aside from “cheated on Adrian Grenier with Shia LaBeouf” and “flower child”, what do we know about this girl? Does she have a personality? Do you care? She walks around often with pale lips and a middle part and I’m not sure I need more. Full Story

Back in 2010, Community star and comedian Don Glover was at the front of a grass-roots campaign to star as Spider-Man in the then-casting Amazing Spider-Man,  a role that eventually went to Andrew Garfield. It was a good-natured push for a guy who is a self-confessed comics geek, but it ended up in a really gross place as a huge, blatantly racist backlash was unleashed on the idea of re-imagining Peter Parker as a character of color. Full Story

Benedict Cumberbatch goes for Oscar as the “fifth Beatle”

Lainey Posted by Lainey at October 31, 2012 18:12:49 October 31, 2012 18:12:49

THR is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to play Brian Epstein, the late Beatles manager widely considered to be responsible for taking the band to superstardom, “the man who threw the biggest party of the 1960’s, but ultimately forgot to invite himself”. Full Story

Disney steps in, Star Wars safe at last

Sarah Posted by Sarah at October 31, 2012 16:58:04 October 31, 2012 16:58:04

Long-time victim of serial creator abuse, Star Wars, the plucky and beloved hero of generations of moviegoers, is reported to be in serious but stable condition at Disney Pictures in Burbank, California after Disney boss Bob Iger announced that, after being informed of the extent of abuse occurring at George Lucas’s remote Skywalker Ranch, he has successfully managed to break Star Wars away from the cycle of victimization and degradation it has suffered over the years at Lucas’s hands. Full Story

Gerard Butler: another weak open

In Smutty Tingles on October 19 I wrote that I was “very curious about the box office for this Gerard Butler movie”. Gerard Butler makes a lot of movies. But none of his movies perform well enough to justify why he gets so many movies. Full Story

The best Bond ever?

Skyfall is getting great reviews. Some people, prone to hyperbole, are even proclaiming that Skyfall is so great, it qualifies as the best Bond ever. They’ll be fighting over that forever. Let’s just agree then that Skyfall is better than the disappointing Quantum Of Solace and returns to the standard of Casino Royale which (come on, can we not fight about this one?) was awesome. Full Story

Gwyneth Paltrow was in Spain for a day to promote Boss Nuit for Hugo Boss. She wore black leather at a photo call and then orange/red on the variety show El Hormiguero. Am underwhelmed by both outfits, particularly the bright dress although the shoes she has on with it are pretty badass in how they somehow found a way to class up Shauna Sand. Full Story

This is Jim Sturgess at the LA premiere of Cloud Atlas last night getting ready for Movember I guess? Or a movie role? The moustache doesn’t bother me. There’s something else that bothers me more. Lately I’ve been hearing here and there that Jim and his long-time girlfriend Mickey O’Brien are no longer together. Full Story

For those of you - all of you -- who don’t remember, his name is Alexander Ludwig and he played Cato in The Hunger Games. It appears as though he’s working from the book of Jena Malone and Sam Claflin -- this is turning out to be a rather enterprising cast, isn’t it? -- and self-starting a campaign to be selected for the coveted role of Four in Divergent. Full Story
