You build for the summer at Christmas. Which is why the studios have been rolling out trailers for all their summer blockbusters. Christian Bale has been in China promoting The Flowers Of War. I’ve written about the film here and here, the “first time a domestically-funded Chinese movie has placed a Hollywood actor in a leading role” with the transparent intent for the Chinese film industry to go aggressively global, much like many of its other industries. Full Story

A couple months ago, Marvel Studios announced that Patty Jenkins, director of Monster, would be in charge of Thor 2, which was very exciting as it was only the second time a woman would be in charge of a superhero tent pole project (Lexi Alexander was the first to do so with Punisher: War Zone—this would’ve been the first time a woman was in charge of a superhero movie with the potential to actually be good). Full Story

The first stills from Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby were released yesterday featuring a really, REALLY hot Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby holding on to Carey Mulligan’s Daisy. Like, really hot. Like, SO HOT. Like, maybe the hottest photo taken of him in many, many years. (I know you’re there Lorella. Full Story

When Franklin Leonard created the Black List—an annual list of the most popular unproduced scripts circulating around Hollywood—it was a way to see what trends were coming, what sort of projects the execs around town were favoring, and who would be next year’s breakout star. Past Black List favorites included scripts for Lars and the Real Girl, (500) Days of Summer and Juno. Full Story

James Franco is a movie critic. For the Paris Review. And his latest piece is a study of Twilight 4 and The Descendants which... I mean I guess I kind of love him for comparing boring The Descendants to the boring ass mess that was Twilight 4. Because, as you know, as I’ve noted a few times now, I feel like The Descendants is SO overrated (click here Full Story

Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig premiered The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in London tonight, beginning their carpet tour towards the film’s opening on December 21. Reviews for the film are embargoed until tomorrow. But last week there was a big ass drama over the release of The New Yorker’s - a positive one - a full week before the date, which was agreed upon with the studio before the screening. Full Story

Most of you will, at some point today, have Men In Black 3 thrown in your face after you leave my blog. Or, perhaps you’d already had it thrown in your face before you visited my blog. That was their intention. Sony announced this morning that they’re promoting the MIB3 trailer across ALL its platforms. Full Story

Has Motherhood ever been more in style than it is now? These days in Hollywood, pregnancy can make a career and save a career. People are obsessed with getting pregnant, talking about getting pregnant, talking about other people being pregnant, talking about what it was like when they were pregnant, missing being pregnant, not missing being pregnant, and every other permutation of getting pregnant and being pregnant I may not have thought of. Full Story
