It’s a new film for HBO written by Larry David and the cast includes Jon Hamm, Danny McBride, Michael Keaton, Bill Hader, Eva Mendes, and Amy Ryan. David plays a f-ck up who tries to f-ck up his old boss, or something. It sounds like a comedy about horrible people. I’m excited. And I’m excited too about Kate Hudson’s recently improved career moves. Full Story

Bardem > Bane?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at September 19, 2012 19:10:33 September 19, 2012 19:10:33

Remember when Bane was supposed to be super scary and...he wasn’t? A new international trailer for Bond has just been released. Javier Bardem looks terrifying. And you have already seen Bardem be terrifying in No Country For Old Men. It was the breathing and it was that f-cking hair. Maybe the key for him is the hair. Full Story

Keira Knightley & Jack Ryan

I never thought I’d see Keira Knightley in a Jack Ryan movie. But here she is, playing Cathy, his girlfriend and, if they follow the story, future wife (that’s what Anne Archer was, right?), shooting scenes for the remake on location in Liverpool. It appears as though he rescues her. And they embrace. Full Story

TIFF Review: Much Ado About Nothing (and a few other things)

I’ve done this movie a great disservice and I feel very guilty about it. I sat down to watch Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing towards the end of the film festival. Bad idea. You see, what’s both exciting and completely soul sucking about the Toronto International Film Festival is that there are always movies to see and places to be. Full Story

Michael Fassbender, comedy guy?

After a huge 2011 and a hot start to 2012, Michael Fassbender is on a down beat, with nothing coming out for months and nothing to do but work and I don’t know…throw rocks at fish, or whatever he does for fun. (And please don’t email me to explain what The Fassbender gets up to on his down time—I like not knowing. Full Story

Until I saw this film on the TIFF schedule, I didn’t even know it existed. But damn am I glad it does. Bad 25 is a fantastic documentary – a Spike Lee Joint – that takes you on an intimate tour behind the scenes during the making of Michael Jackson’s Bad record and world tour. Full Story

Lincoln looks amazing, and hollow

Sarah Posted by Sarah at September 14, 2012 16:43:03 September 14, 2012 16:43:03

Abraham Lincoln is fascinating. Read his speeches, articles or the letters he left behind and he sounds amazingly modern. It is really incredible—pick a year in his life and study anything written by anyone else and then compare it to Lincoln and it’s like he’s speaking another language, he was so far ahead of his time. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: The Paperboy

I saw The Paperboy with a few friends. Half of them were thoroughly entertained, half of them were bored by it. I found myself caught somewhere in the middle. The Paperboy, for those of you who are unfamiliar, is that movie where Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron. Or at least that’s how the gossip blogs are spinning it. Full Story

One of the biggest ongoing questions surrounding the Avengers franchise is the potential involvement of Dr. Strange, a dude who messes around with space-magic sh*t, and he sometimes helps the Avengers out. A lot of folks, myself included, have thought Benedict Cumberbatch Full Story

End Of Watch is the latest gritty cop thriller from writer/director, David Ayer. He’s made an eye opener of a movie that gives us a glimpse into what it’s like to patrol the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles. And I’ll tell you one thing, I never want to be abandoned on those streets. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

I have to begin by confessing that I have not read The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And I can safely say that I regret letting it slip through the cracks. Because if a movie this good came from a book, I can only imagine how transformative that book must be.  As a movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower will go down as one of the great coming of age classics. Full Story
