As you’ve heard me say a lot lately, Jennifer Lawrence is the current frontrunner for Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. You’re seeing it this weekend, right? This is a very strong year in film. Your list is probably longer this year than it has been in a while. Full Story

Colin Farrell, a knight on a white horse. Two versions: Sir Colin with the Roxbury hair and Sir Colin with Jimmy Darmody’s hair. Which do you prefer? It’s a fairy tale either way. Winter’s Tale tells the story of an orphan called Peter who is protected by a white horse and in love with a sick girl, Beverly. Full Story

This is Natalie Portman in London shooting Thor 2. Last year, Sarah posted this article about Portman being pissed over the firing of director Patty Jenkins from the project as she had advocated for Jenkin’s involvement and wanted to see a woman direct a superhero movie for a change. Full Story

Pun fully intended. Last year Julia Roberts hosted a screening of Javier Bardem’s film Biutiful to promote her friend’s performance in a small film, and garnering him some Academy attention. The ploy worked and Bardem received his third Oscar nomination. Taking a page from the Julia Roberts’ Playbook for Pimping Your Friends, Angelina Jolie hosted a screening of The Impossible, Juan Antonio Bayona’s film about one family’s travails in the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. Full Story

Check out Charlize Theron in South Africa with a buzzed brown head. Did they dye it that colour? Or is that her natural colour? Charlize has been in Africa for a few months now shooting the Mad Max movie which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is at least 5 days behind schedule and enough of a concern for the studio to send a supervisor out there and yell at people to make things right. Full Story

Look at how Helen Mirren outclasses everyone on this carpet, as it should be. Anyway, Jessica Biel is married now so... I guess that’s why she’s dressing like she’s 50. Compare what she looks like with Scarlett Johannson, age 27. Scarlett is exactly 27, if not even more youthful. Full Story

Tom Hardy wants some video game action, too

Sarah Posted by Sarah at November 16, 2012 19:38:03 November 16, 2012 19:38:03

A few months ago it came out that Michael Fassbender had signed on to produce and star in an adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed. I fretted, because video game movies, historically, don’t work and I don’t want to see Fassbender suffer the same fate as Jake Gyllenhaal and Prince of Persia. Full Story

Can James Bond really win an Oscar?

With a Best Picture field that can accommodate anything from 5 to 10 nominees, the last few years always featured talk about which of the more populist films could be included in the Oscar race. Last year the conversation revolved around Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 (no nomination materialized), and the field was expanded in the first place when The Dark Knight was so egregiously overlooked in 2009. Full Story

Between Katniss and Tris

Back in March 2011 I reported exclusively that Jennifer Lawrence was the first choice to play Katniss in The Hunger Games. At one point however, they were also interested in Saoirse Ronan, particularly after her performance in Hanna (click here for a refresher) but that she would have to really, REALLY dazzle producers to take the job away. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio was photographed in New York on the set of The Wolf Of Wall Street yesterday playing tennis and smoking cigarettes. He’s no longer the young thin-faced Jack Dawson of Titanic but in many ways, the reason we still see him that way is because of how he moves his body. He’s always had that awkward boyish gait. Full Story

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford flew out of LAX yesterday. Mumford & Sons played the Hollywood Bowl the night before. Carey isn't working on anything right now after wrapping Gatsby and the Coen Bros movie. It's new bride down time and she's presumably spending it on the road with her husband. Full Story
