It’s a gorgeous-looking movie. It certainly does what it can to appeal to both genders, the acting is solid if not spectacular, and there is enough modification on the classic to make it surprising at times, but it could definitely use some tightening. This movie does not need to be over 2 hours. Full Story

Oh Annie... Already? I will be tired of you by August 1 if you are campaigning already. The first trailer for Les Miserables, heavily featuring Anne Hathaway, was released today. And here she is stepping out with a broken arm in NYC. Coincidence or conspiracy? I love Les Miserables so much, and I want so badly for this movie to be so great, for now, that for this incident, I'll say coincidence. Full Story

How many times already?

Lainey Posted by Lainey at May 30, 2012 16:59:09 May 30, 2012 16:59:09

How many times have you enjoyed the first teaser for Les Miserables? As I mentioned last week, many of the anticipated award films have been rolling out their previews the last couple of weeks. At this rate we should see something soon then from Anna Karenina. So... how’s our list looking so far? In no particular order: The Master Anna Karenina Gatsby Django Unchained Lincoln Life Of Pi . Full Story

Moonrise Kingdom GIVEAWAY - VANCOUVER

Lainey Posted by Lainey at May 28, 2012 19:42:11 May 28, 2012 19:42:11

Moonrise Kingdom opened the Cannes Film Festival. I loved it. SO MUCH. A Wes Anderson movie with heart? Indeed. There’s a lack of his usual detachment here that has been replaced by an emotion that lives closer to affection. And the critics agree. Moonrise Kingdom is scoring at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes at press time and 85% on Metacritic. Full Story

Kylie Minogue: Holy Motors & Timebomb

Holy Motors was my favourite film of Cannes 2012. What’s it about? I don’t actually know. It’s a giant mind f-ck that I can’t wait to see again and again. We can love what we can’t understand, can’t we? Kylie Minogue is in it. And Eva Mendes. Does that make you mad? That Eva Mendes is involved in something (good) that people keep talking about? People are predicting Holy Motors will win the Palme d’Or. Full Story

Jennifer Lawrence was photographed on Wednesday with her boyfriend Nicholas Hoult in London. They were on their way to see a show. Cute, right? It’s been a busy stretch for Lawrence. For a long time, actually. You know about The Hunger Games. And she’s been working with Bradley Cooper on a film called Serena. Full Story

Jessica Biel has been trying to produce and star in a movie called The Devil In The Deep Blue Sea (terrible title) for a while now. At least 18 months if not longer. The project was going nowhere. Then this week it was announced from Cannes that the project had finally found financing and that her fiancé soon husband will score and supervise the soundtrack. Full Story

Garrett Hedlund in On The Road

I was worried about Garrett Hedlund after seeing TRON: Legacy. That was not a good movie. And he... wasn’t good in it. But he didn’t seem in a hurry to do much else after Country Strong. After seeing On The Road, now I know why. Whoever is managing his career was confident enough in what Hedlund delivered, knowing that once people see this performance, new opportunities would present themselves soon enough. Full Story

Marvelous Benedict Cumberbatch

Sarah Posted by Sarah at May 24, 2012 13:47:21 May 24, 2012 13:47:21

Could not resist. So Benedict Cumberbatch has been hanging around Marvel since late last year, prompting a lot of talk about what he’s doing and the inevitability of his involvement with one of their properties. The natural assumption—mine included—was that he would play Dr. Strange. Because if Cumberbatch was ever going to go superhero, it would have to be the guy called Strange. Full Story

The Great Gatsby First Trailer

Lainey Posted by Lainey at May 23, 2012 17:00:36 May 23, 2012 17:00:36

A teaser for The Master was released the other day, now The Great Gatsby, and I wonder if we’ll be getting something soon from Les Miserables, or perhaps even Django Unchained, seeing as some of the early hyped so-called award contenders seem to be flexing themselves this week. Many of you have written asking for commentary on the first preview for Baz Luhrmann’s 3D remake. Full Story
