Spotlight won Best Picture on Sunday at the Oscars. It was one of my top films coming out of TIFF. Yes for Spotlight. Last year Birdman was Best Picture. So that's two in a row for Michael Keaton. Will it be three? Michael's next major role will be Ray Kroc, of McDonald's, in The Founder. Full Story

Stephen King’s Gunslinger series—which spans books, short stories, and comic books—is finally coming to the big screen after a long and convoluted development process that saw it pass through JJ Abrams and Ron Howard, who wanted to do a film franchise/TV series combo to tell the hellishly overcomplicated story that Stephen King just kept writing because no one ever tells him enough. Full Story

Katie Holmes was photographed backstage at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday serving Breyer’s ice cream in a blue wrap dress for reasons unknown. Seriously. Take a look at these photos and explain to me how they make any sense. This is a night that celebrates the best in indie film, and a marquee star, who currently has an independent film of her own, Touched with Fire, in theatres is being relegated to serving attendees ice cream backstage. Full Story

Boasting an impressive cast that includes Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Aaron Paul, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, and Kate Winslet, Gritty Cop Drama is exactly the kind of gritty cop drama you get sucked into watching on cable on a Saturday afternoon. It’s got just enough going on under the hood to not feel like a complete waste of time, but it’s also not interested in saying anything new or interesting about gritty cops, so it’s easy enough to forget all about it once it’s over. Full Story

How much did you love Cruel Intentions? It is the big sister to Gossip Girl – privilege, horny teens and backstabbing on the Upper East Side. And it had some pop culture lasting power – the coke in the crucifix, Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s kiss, the journal reveal. None of this half-Disney Marvel sh*t, Ava DuVernay has decided that if she’s going work for a corporate machine, she’s going to work for Disney itself, the corporatiest, machiniest one of all. Full Story

I texted Lainey the other night after seeing Casey Affleck’s new movie, Triple 9, that I think he might have A Moment coming. She agreed, but then he went on Late Night with Stephen Colbert to promote the movie and had an awkward interview, and she was like, maybe that moment won’t come after all. Full Story

Ryan Coogler was honoured by the American Black Film Festival the other night with the Rising Star Award. The award was presented to him by Octavia Spencer who he directed in Fruitvale Station. People keep saying that Ryan is an emerging talent. I feel like he’s kinda arrived now, non? Have you seen Creed yet? If you haven’t, you don’t have to wait long. Full Story
