After stalling out at Sony, it was announced yesterday that the movie version of Little House on the Prairie has relocated to Paramount. The movie will be written by Abi Morgan, co-writer of Shame, and directed by Sean Durkin, who made Martha Marcy May Marlene. That’s a VERY interesting talent combo. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio and Alejandro G Inarritu were in Mexico yesterday continuing to promote The Revenant. Leo’s Oscar for Best Actor has been secured. But they also want The Revenant to take Best Picture (with an asterisk, because let’s face it, the winners this year will be overshadowed by #OscarsSoWhite). Full Story

Here’s your feel-good story of the day. Nate Parker, the actor best known for Beyond the Lights, basically quit acting right when he was getting some traction off that movie in order to make Birth of a Nation, about Nat Turner and his doomed slave revolt in the 1830s. Parker produced, directed, and stars in the movie, and he also co-wrote the screenplay. Full Story

I think Saint Tom the Huge Dork is gone for good

I’ve been missing Saint Tom the Huge Dork, as Tom Hiddleston has deliberately lowered his profile over the last couple years. Saint Tom the Huge Dork was born of the glory days when he was last promoting 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, and doing silly dances all over the place and generally being a huge dork. Full Story

Step aside, Ben, it’s Casey’s turn

It is my opinion that between the Affleck brothers, Casey is the better all-around actor. He can do character work, he can carry as a lead, he can disappear into roles or look sufficiently Hollywood, depending on how “visible” you want your star to be. Ben Affleck has proven to be a better filmmaker than anyone expected, but Casey, for my money, delivers much more as an actor than Ben does. Full Story

Wonder Woman flies on regular airplanes, not invisible ones

The new trailer for Superhero Face Punch answers a Very Important Question regarding Wonder Woman: Will she fly an invisible jet? Answer: No, or at least, not yet. The new trailer shows Wonder Woman dutifully stowing her appropriately-sized carry-on bag in the overhead compartment and taking her seat on a commercial airline, like a responsible citizen and not some oversized bag-toting monster. Full Story

Every time I turn on the TV there’s a commercial on for The Finest Hours. It’s about Pendleton rescue mission attempt in 1952. Two oil tankers were destroyed in bad weather and the Coast Guard, along with citizens on a surfboat, saved almost all the passengers. The film follows the release of Chris Hemsworth’s In The Heart Of The Sea, a different story entirely, obviously, but for some reason I can’t tell them apart. Full Story

Chow Yun Fat, Carina Lau, and Jacky Cheung were all in Beijing today to promote The Man From Macau III. Click here for my previous post about the movie. This is exciting for those of us who grew up watching Hong Kong soap operas because you’ll recall, Carina and Brother Fat starred in Police Cadet 85. Full Story

Only take your kids to Norm of the North if you hate them

When I was a kid my orthodontist had arcade games in the waiting room and TVs at every dental station, so you could watch movies while having your braces tightened. There I would be, suffering through intense pain and watching Homeward Bound, learning about friendship and teamwork and the ceaseless torment of modern orthodontia. Full Story
