I am predisposed to be kind to Seth Rogen right now because the premiere of the TV show he’s producing, Preacher, was announced (May 22), and I am very much looking forward to this show and my friend E texted me from SXSW after the pilot screened there to say things like, “You’re going to love it” and, “It will make you so happy. Full Story

A couple of days after the Oscars, I overheard a conversation at work in the bathroom. It was two women, millennial age, talking about Leonardo DiCaprio. How amazing he is. How amazing his speech was, because he made it about the environment. How amazing it was that he finally won because he so deserves it and has been overlooked for so long. Full Story

Many people thought Jacob Tremblay deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance in Room. Brie Larson won the Best Actress Oscar for Room. And what she gave us in that film could not have happened without the other person in that room – Jacob. Jacob was named Best Actor (over Christopher Plummer!) last night at the Canadian Screen Awards. Full Story

Go in knowing nothing about 10 Cloverfield Lane

I hate the mystery box. I am not a fan of the JJ Abrams School of SECRETY SECRETS. It only worked once, with Cloverfield, because that movie came out of left field and had nothing to do with anything, so there were no preconceived notions or expectations about what it would be. All we knew from the secretive marketing campaign was that it was a monster movie, and then it delivered on that premise while also featuring some innovative low budget filmmaking from Matt Reeves. Full Story

Ben Affleck recently gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly for their Superhero Face Punch issue in which he talks about his older, even more cynical Batman, and the open-ended promise of a Batfleck-directed Batman movie, but the thing nerds are fixating on is that Affleck confirms that at the time of Superhero Face Punch, Robin is dead. Full Story

Let me tell off the top that I don’t have video for this and I’M SORRY, I can’t find it. I am as disappointed as you are. Because I’d probably rub one out to Oscar Isaac reading too. We do have pictures though? Does that work? Oscar Isaac was in London this weekend for Letters Live – celebrities reading aloud correspondence from famous personalities. Full Story

The Book Of Negroes is of the most important literary works to come out of Canada. It’s about a woman called Aminata, born in West Africa, kidnapped and sold to slavery in America – a difficult but necessary read. The story was turned into a miniseries airing in Canada on the CBC and in the US on BET and cleaned up at the Canadian Screen Awards this week, including Best Actress in a Series last night for Aunjanue Ellis. Full Story

Captain America can do this all day

Sarah Posted by Sarah at March 10, 2016 19:47:21 March 10, 2016 19:47:21

The second—and some say final—trailer for Captain America: Civil War was just released and it’s a continuation of what has been, so far, a stellar ad campaign. Last year, Disney kinda blew it with Avengers: Age of Ultron, not really doing a great job communicating the tone of the final film. Full Story

Do you think asking for things on Twitter is a bit desperate? Like if you were applying for a job, would you tweet the company and tell them you really, really want it? If you are Aaron Paul, it seems to work. He’s been talking about the Stephen King series The Dark Tower since 2014, and two days ago he said this: Dear @StephenKing Full Story

Tina Fey’s latest movie, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, is a frustrating viewing experience. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Focus, Crazy Stupid Love), the film has the same tone problems that have plagued the duo since their debut film, I Love You Phillip Morris, which is magic they have not been able to recreate. Full Story
