Rachel McAdams was the only Spotlight cast member present at the Critics’ Choice Awards last night and spoke on behalf of the cast when it was named Best Acting Ensemble. “Our cast” is what she said, which is the way it should be said. Once again, just as it was at the Golden Globes, Rachel was joined at the event by Sacha Pfeiffer. Full Story

Yes. I am a click-whore and I just lured you with a few shots of Tom Hardy winking last night after The Revenant premiere in London. He was hanging out with Leonardo DiCaprio. They were both nominated for Oscars yesterday. Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom, was also well recognised by the Academy. How much do you love that Leo basically became a Kardashian for this nomination while Tom tried as hard as he could to NOT be nominated …and still got nominated. Full Story

Rumors of a sequel to the found footage monster flick Cloverfield have floated ever since that movie was a surprise hit in 2008. Produced by JJ Abrams, Cloverfield is the movie that kicked off the JJ Abrams School of SECRETY SECRETS, as its ad campaign was mysterious and baffling and featured an all-time great trailer Full Story

Zoolander covers VOGUE

Zoolander 2, no, sorry, Zoolander No. 2, opens on February 12. That’s not typically a good month for movies. But it’s also NY Fashion Week. And it’s during award season. Please, please, please, can Derek and Hansel present at the Oscars? Well, first, they have to promote the movie. Full Story

We’re preparing ourselves for the inevitability of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar win, right? There’s always a chance that Bryan Cranston’s Trumbo hustle could pay off, or that Michael Fassbender will get off his ass and decide to participate and upset Leo, but I think we’re all resigned to “Academy Award Winner Leonardo DiCaprio” being his new official title. Full Story

Remember when the idea of an Aquaman movie was a running joke on Entourage? And now we live in a world where Warner Brothers is seriously going to make an Aquaman movie. Which means we’re living in the Entourage universe. Truly, this is the darkest timeline. Aquaman: No, Seriously is slated for the summer of 2018 (though Aquaman and his wife, Mera, will appear in Justice League first), and it will be directed by James Wan of Furious 7 and Insidious fame. Full Story

Everybody’s talking about the Oscar nominations. And some people are talking about how Tom Hardy has a nomination and is in two Oscar nominated Best Pictures. OK but Domhnall Gleeson doesn’t have a nomination but he’s in The Revenant, Brooklyn, Star Wars, and Ex Machina, all films that received Oscar nominations today. Full Story

Rachel McAdams was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar this morning. TwiHards were hoping that Kristen Stewart would get in there, given that several critics associations singled her out and it was great to see her out there, hustling for it. But she was always going to be a dark horse. As I wrote last week – click here Full Story

Saoirse Ronan, Irish Oscar Nominee

So Saoirse Ronan grabs an Oscar nomination, which is not really a surprise, given that the buzz about Brooklyn has been huge, and that she’s a great actress. Remember, it’s not even her first nomination – that was for Atonement, back in 2008. What was a surprise was getting an amazing email yesterday from Aisling (ASHling), telling me that some in Ireland are beginning to accuse Saoirse of ‘Irishing-up’ her accent and general persona as she did North American press. Full Story

Idris Elba was Netflix’s best chance at an Oscar nomination for Beasts Of No Nation. But the Academy isn’t ready yet for Netflix to come and f-ck up the order of the film industry. He was left off the list of Best Supporting Actors. When Straight Outta Compton was called for Best Original Screenplay, I thought, OMG, Compton will make Best Picture! Nope. Full Story

Well, my one prediction was wrong. Young Jacob Tremblay was not nominated for an Oscar. But he is in an Oscar nominated film, Room. There will be 8 films competing for Best Picture this year at the Oscars. So the nominations were just announced. We’ll be splitting up the analysis into a few different posts. Full Story
