London Has Fallen is a movie in which the leaders of several sovereign nations are explicitly and violently assassinated on camera. Then half the city of London is blown up—particularly, all the “known landmarks”, as opposed to all those unknown ones—and then we spend two hours watching as everyone in the movie is varying degrees of incompetent except for Gerard Butler. Full Story

The second of three Olympic-themed movies coming down the pipe—sandwiched in between Race and The Bronze—Eddie the Eagle is a charming crowd-pleaser about a perpetual loser who games the system to become an Olympian. It’s too loosey-goosey with the facts to count as a real biopic—the film includes integral characters conjured out of thin air—but Eddie the Eagle nails the spirit of the underdog story of Michael “Eddie” Edwards, a British Olympian who participated in the 1988 Olympics. Full Story

Spotlight won Best Picture on Sunday at the Oscars. It was one of my top films coming out of TIFF. Yes for Spotlight. Last year Birdman was Best Picture. So that's two in a row for Michael Keaton. Will it be three? Michael's next major role will be Ray Kroc, of McDonald's, in The Founder. Full Story
