Last night was the premiere of Tina Fey’s and Amy Poehler’s new movie, Sisters, which opens next week against New New Star Wars. The opening weekend projection for Star Wars is $190-$225 million, which means no one has a clue what it’s really going to do. There are only three comparables for this movie, both Avengers and Jurassic World, and in each scenario the box office was unpredictable. Full Story

Tarzan, King of the Cheese

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 9, 2015 15:58:15 December 9, 2015 15:58:15

The first images from Alexander Skarsgard’s probably doomed movie, Tarzan, have been released and holy buckets of hell, they are so cheesy. There are two photos—one shows Margot Robbie as Jane in a dirty dress, with Tarzan creeping on her, and the other is of Tarzan’s abs. Full Story

Rob Lowe received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday. He could have received it 20 years ago and he would still look exactly the same, what is the secret, seriously!?! If you’re a millennial you might not understand what Rob Lowe means to the generation that came before you but for those of you who did grow up in the Brat Pack era, I know you know and you remember – in many ways, Rob Lowe and crew were our introduction to pop culture, teen angst, and class. Full Story

It was announced today that Alicia Vikander will receive the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January. As you know, Alicia’s being positioned for an Oscar nomination for her work in The Danish Girl and she’s shown up on several critics’ lists as one of the best of the year though it remains to be seen how her chances will be affected by the category controversy between supporting and lead. Full Story

Production on Ben Affleck’s Live By Night has moved to Los Angeles, or at least it was there yesterday. Ben and Sienna Miller were both photographed on set in costume yesterday with Sienna going full moll. Since it was announced that Sienna was cast in the film, we’ve all been trying to make this happen, right? Ben and Sienna? Gossip Genie? The tabloids are all over it but to my knowledge, there’s nothing there. Full Story

There has been an unusual amount of focus on the actress categories in the Oscar race this year, because for once there is an overabundance of worthy performances by actresses. Usually, these categories lock up pretty early with a clear frontrunner and the obvious runners-up, and it feels like we kind of scrape around the barrel looking for one or two people to round out the list of top ten female performances in a year. Full Story

Channing is the other one

In the previous post about Mark Wahlberg, I mentioned that there are two names that will always elicit screams from our audience at The Social. Channing Tatum is the other one. You just have to say “Channing Tatum” and people lose their f-cking minds. Now this I can support. Channing Tatum deserves it. Full Story

I mentioned Daddy’s Home yesterday in my post about Chris Hemsworth and In The Heart Of The Sea – click here for a refresher. The question was about the audience for that film because Star Wars is eating everything. Some of you wrote back to say that In The Heart Of The Sea is for our dads. Full Story

As I mentioned earlier, I haven’t yet watched Ryan Gosling’s episode of Saturday Night Live. Sarah texted me just now to tell me that it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good and that she was disappointed it wasn’t better and that she looked forward to Chris Hemsworth’s return to the show. Full Story

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are Nice Guys

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 7, 2015 16:50:16 December 7, 2015 16:50:16

I don’t care what you people (read: Lainey) say about Ryan Gosling and his “cute”—as long as he’s making good movies, I’m into Ryan Gosling. Admittedly, the last few years have been a little rough. Gangster Squad was not good, Only God Forgives was unwatchable, and the only thing he did in 2014 was release his self-indulgent directorial debut, Lost River. Full Story

The difference between Tom & Leo

Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio were in London together yesterday at a BAFTA screening for The Revenant. All we hear from The Revenant is about Leo’s performance. And even though many experts are predicting that Tom will be recognised for his work with a Best Supporting Actor nomination, Leo’s been eating up all the headlines related to the film with all his meat eating, bear f-cking Full Story
