I was watching a documentary about country music at home the other night. It was Dolly Parton. She was on screen as I was flipping channels. And you don’t change the channel on Dolly. Mostly I just wanted to listen to Dolly talk about her career but some other dudes, all veterans, came on and one of them started complaining about Bro Country, how it’s not real country music and how he doesn’t care about songs that feature “sugar shakers”, thank you very much Florida Georgia Line. Miranda Lambert won a LOT last night. Four times, for a total of 11 CMAs over all, which means she has the most CMAs of any female artist of all time – more than Faith, more than Reba, more than Martina. Miranda Lambert is just 30 years old. She’s definitely not done. And I want to celebrate this, I do. Full Story

The CMA Awards happened last night in Nashville. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosted again. And they are GREAT at it, as comfortable as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey at the Golden Globes, and just as willing to go there. I mean, they were already taking shots at Taylor Swift even before she left country – and you know, YOU KNOW Carrie can’t pass up an opportunity to take shots at Taylor Swift. Full Story
Well, she did it. Taylor Swift’s 1989 sold 1.287 million copies in its first week, the most by any artist since 2002. And it’s her THIRD million plus album in a row – she’s the only artist to EVER do that, especially remarkable since they keep saying that album sales are going down. Read Full Intro

Beyonce and JayZ (with Ty Ty tagging along) were courtside at Barclay’s last night to watch the Nets. As you can see, she re-bobbed. We’ll come back to these shots in a minute but first… It was reported yesterday that there may be a new secret album drop in the next couple of weeks. Full Story
There’s a rumour going around about a new “surprise” album which… wouldn’t be a surprise anymore if it’s true. Billboard is pointing to a “Release Confirmation” that seems to suggest that Beyonce: Volume 2 is on the way on November 14 (online release) featuring collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake. Gwyneth Paltrow has had a great week. Taylor Swift has had an amazing week. She’s been out there hard, pushing 1989. And I’m curious to find out what the first week sales figures are going to be. Because RED was a big number. This one will be a big number too. For sure the biggest number of the year. Full Story
So I think I might disappoint you again with the following: I LOVE the new Taylor Swift album, 1989. It’s a dance in your kitchen kind of album. It’s a play in the background while you’re getting ready with your team kind of album. It’s a play in your car on the way to the airport to drop off your best friend after the most amazing weekend kind of album.
And it’s not that Taylor isn’t pissed anymore. At the boys, at the broken hearts they leave behind. It’s just that she seems a lot less… petulant? Less petulant in her anger? I never thought I’d want to have a conversation with Taylor Swift before, like a real conversation. And now, after listening to this album, after hearing her music, I’m starting to believe Taylor Swift might have something to say.
Or, again, maybe it’s just that I grew up in the 80s. I can’t resist this sound.
Yours in gossip,
Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr are shooting the Hollywood round of the upcoming season of American Idol this week. The show’s keeping her paid until Spring 2015. And then, I guess, she starts working on the Vegas show? No confirmation has happened yet, but I can’t imagine they’d waste that announcement when there’s nothing else to co-promote. Full Story
TMZ is reporting that Jennifer Lopez is working on a Vegas deal. Apparently she’s negotiating with The Axis at Planet Hollywood for 72 shows over 24 weeks that would pay her $350K each time. It’s similar to Britney. Except, well, didn’t you think that JLO had a lot more going on than Britney? For Britney, the Vegas thing makes sense, because …you know. Full Story
