Duana, First off, I LOVE your name posts and happily devour them when I see a new one up. And, I read and loved The Name Therapist when I was pregnant with my first daughter. You’ve been a guiding light in our search for names! Thank you! So....I am reaching out for help this time around. We had a easy time with our first daughter, Juliet (middle name Alexandra). Full Article

Oh wise Duana! I am hoping you may be able to steer me in the right direction as you did once before… We have a Hazel Louise (4), decided with your help on a Delilah May (2) and now are expecting our final installment, a boy in approximately 5 weeks. Hazel is a crowd pleaser name, we never get a bad reaction and it's different and older without being overly used, tick tick tick! Delilah gets a mixed bag of reactions, you can tell the minute you say it if someone likes it or hates it, but god it suits her and her cheekiness! Now we’re not naming our kids to please other people, but somewhere in the middle of these two names is a gold standard; you’ve heard it, it's not unusual enough that your child is spelling it and it's not saturated and therefore ‘trendy’, bleh. Full Article

Hi Duana,    Help! We’re expecting baby boy #2 on June 24th, so we have about 4 weeks left to choose a name and I’m starting to panic!    Our first son, Owen Russell, just turned three and has been affectionately calling his brother Bug and/or Bowen (a name you recently suggested to another reader). Full Article

Hi Duana! My name is Sarah and there were always at least 1 other Sara(h) in my class growing up. I currently work with 8 other Sara(h)s. Because of this, I have always wanted an unconventional yet easy to pronounce and spell name. I recently heard the name Pepper for a girl and absolutely fell in love with it. Full Article

Hi Duana! I’ve been reading your column for years and we love the name of our first child, Lillian Stuckey. Lillian is getting a sibling! Little Person #2’s sex is unknown. I had names chosen for the eventual #2. They were the middle names of my husband’s parents, holding extra meaning for my husband’s family because my father-in-law passed away before I met him. Full Article

Duana Names: Dare Us To Do This?

Hi Duana,  After struggling for 5 years with infertility, and getting science involved, we had our daughter Marigold Delphine last year. For us, there was a lot to like and reasons of ‘right fit’ for choosing Marigold (one being a tradition in my family to do a derivative of Maria/Mary for girls, another was how it goes with her father’s last name. Full Article

Hi Duana, You so very kindly responded to my last letter when we were having my son in December 2015 (so long ago – sorry!). We were deciding between Miles and Cameron on d-day and he came out with a head full of bright red hair and for some reason that meant he was a Cameron. Full Article

Hi Duana, Just wanted to say your kitten column really made me smile (on a crappy day!). Such cute photos, and Otto and Mabel were the names of my great-grandparents (mother's maternal grandparents) so to me they've always gone together. Full Article

Hi Duana,    I’m due in mid-June, and I’m having a baby boy. My daughter is named Delphine Rose. My husband and I are both born and raised Canadians. He’s of French and Italian heritage and I am 100% Peruvian. Our last name is B*****o. For a first name we love and are virtually settled on the name Olivier, mostly because it has the same French ring as Delphine (although Delphine is actually Greek). Full Article

So as pointed out elsewhere on the site, it’s Memorial Day in the U.S.  Little known fact – though Canadians had our holiday Monday, Victoria Day, a week earlier, Memorial Day can effectively mean a sort-of half-holiday here as well, because on some level people who are waiting for answers from the States are on snooze, and because Victoria Day is considered the kickoff to summer here, people sometimes take advantage of the long weekend for another weekend. Full Article
