Duana, Our first baby, a girl is due mid-May and we still don't have a name which is stressing me so much that I might go into labor early. I am French and studied French literature at university. I have a long time obsession with Victor Hugo and I always though of the name Esmeralda if I ever had a daughter. Full Article

Hi there, this one is for Duana- We recently made some life changes and moved back to a town to look for a home. Because I don't want to rent in the interim, we are living with my husband's parents (never thought I'd be 33 and living with my in-laws)!!!  I just found out that we are expecting another baby. Full Article

The thing with the updates isn’t just that you tell me I was right or wrong, or that you write in (and between 6-12 months seems to be around when people are able to update, in case you’re waiting on tenterhooks to hear how it went for one letterwriter or another), but that you’re so happy when you do. Full Article

I am due with our first baby in about 6 weeks and am in desperate need of some help with a boy name. We are keeping the sex a surprise, and have been decided on a girl name for months now. For some reason, we are getting no where with a boy name. As someone that has a pretty unique name, I would love for my kid to not have an overly common name as well. Full Article

Duana, We have our first name picked out for our girl both middle name (three syllables and then one). Both are very pretty, classical but not overused - maybe both in the 250 range of most popular. The issue I am having is the last name-hyphenation issue. My boyfriend and I have been together donkeys' years and after many ups, downs and heartaches we might actually be having our take home baby late spring. Full Article

Spring is ploughing ahead, which brought a random query into my head: so April, May, June, August... All very popular names. Why not July then? It's got a nice flow and ring to it, and in so many countries July is the best holiday month - hot and beautiful - so it also comes with great connotations. Full Article

Hi there Duana, I'm due with a boy in about a month and for the last, pretty much 8 months, my husband and I were dead set on a name and, while I read your column religiously, I thought that I would never need your help. But of course now I do! Here's the sitch: we were dead set on having the name Fitz as a first name (our last name also starts with F, but we liked the alliteration). Full Article

*with apologies to those in the south, where Spring has been alive and well for awhile Hi Duana, We are expecting our 2nd child late this Spring and were excited to find out it is a girl.  We currently have a son and his name is Remy.  We absolutely love the name.  A dear friend suggested it and while it wasn't an instant "yes, that's it" it certainly grew on us and by the time we had our son, we knew it was the perfect name. Full Article

Hi Duana, I write to you as a disillusioned name nerd. I've been looking forward to naming a baby for a long time, but now that my husband and I are expecting a little boy, it turns out to be a lot harder and less fun than I expected. Basically, all of the boy names I thought were adorable and fun (Milo, August, even your fave Otto) ended up feeling too trendy or precious or time-stamped when I really considered attaching them to a human for the rest of his life. Full Article

Hi Duana, Almost 10 years after the birth of our first daughter, Lily, my husband and I are expecting a second baby girl. This pregnancy was a very big surprise, since, as the result of a complications from a chronic disease, I was told I couldn't have any more children. Anyway, she is due soon and we still can't seem to settle upon a name. Full Article

Duana Names: Half the Choices is Still Many Choices

Hi Duana My due date is fast approaching on May 17.  My husband and I are expecting a boy and having a hard time agreeing on a name.  I initially didn't want to know the sex, but picking names turned out to be so difficult that I needed to cut our choices in half! We are Jewish and committed to picking a name which fits our culture (with an old testament name, or something else Jewish), and in an ideal world honouring a grandparent (initials S, R, M or A would be ideal). Full Article

Hey Duana, My boss and mentor is expecting her second daughter and is having a hard time deciding on a name. Her eldest is named Mischa, and the frontrunner right now for the younger sibling is Logan. Her main worry is that Logan is really popular right now as a boy's name, and she wouldn't want her daughter to grow up in a generation where only boys share her name (but by the same token, she wants to steer way clear of the most popular girls' names). Full Article

Dear Duana, It's getting desperate. Our baby girl is due in April and we are having a complete culture clash. This is a longed for baby and likely to be the only one. I'm English and would love a name that is pretty, reasonably traditional and a bit unusual. I always wanted Fleur for a daughter's name, but I also love Lisette and Eloise. Full Article
