Hi Duana - I have a 2 year old son named Wyatt. Agreeing on his name was one of the more difficult things my husband and I have ever done (I swear it's the ONLY boy name we came across that we both loved). I just found out we are expecting our second child this August - we don't know yet if it's a boy or girl - and I am already stressing about how we'll ever agree on another name. Full Article

Hoping you can help break the deadlock my husband and I are in. We're due with our first, a little boy, in four weeks and can't agree on his first name. Middle name is a family name and completely sorted. We're down to three boys names: Mattias, Callan and Erik. Our last name is very Swedish, starts with a "J"and ends in "sson". Full Article

I have loved your name articles from day one, for both the hilarious redirections and sweet encouragements. But it was solely for entertainment purposes. Except now I'm surprise pregnant (Hi! was on the pill!) and my husband and I are grappling with names for our little one. Since fate toyed with us a bit, we've decided to leave the sex unknown and choose two names for boy/girl and name the kid accordingly once we meet them. Full Article

Hi Duana! My husband and I (and my mom, his mom, my sister, etc.) are deadlocked over the name of our second daughter. We are torn between Susannah and Blythe as a sister to Phoebe. I think I really like the simple, chic feel of Blythe and I adore the symmetry it has visually with Phoebe, but I think Susannah is probably a prettier, easier name to wear. Full Article

Help!!!!! Pregnant with my second, due in the middle of summer, and we are completely stuck on a name. We will be having a boy this time around so of course I had girls names all picked out!  The only names we like so far are Grayson and Hudson but we aren't really in love with either.  There are other names I love but the problem is our last name. Full Article

Dear Duana, My husband and I are expecting a boy this winter, and while we fundamentally agree on the types of names we like (traditional, must pass the Supreme Court test), I’m having a lot of trouble agreeing to anything because I’m afraid of what my husband is actually going to call our child. Full Article

Duana Names: C, D, (not E) F

Hi Duana, My husband and I are struggling a bit to brainstorm names for our first babychild. We have some parameters: We are loosely naming him or her after my mother, so we're going to use one of her three initials (D, C, and F) as the first letter of the name. The middle name will be my mother-in-law's maiden name, which is fortunately cool and starts with "K" (two syllables). Full Article

I am 34 weeks pregnant with a girl. After much negotiation, my husband and I have decided to name her Mira. However, we are having a lot of trouble with a middle name. Because I am giving the child my husband's last name, and I don't want to hyphenate (our names sound bad together) or give her my last name as her maiden name (my mom did that to me and I always hated it) I want the middle name to alternatively represent me somehow. Full Article

You guys, I know this one is a little long, but it’s worth it. Check it out: My first name contains the letter “L”, with “la” being the predominant sound and literal centre of the name. Unfortunately, as a kid, I had trouble with making this sound and as such couldn’t pronounce my very simple first name. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm hoping you can help a friend of mine who is having to think of a boys name after her husband vetoed her only choice! I have one son, and with no plans for more, I'm not going to get the chance to name another baby - so I'm having fun helping her finding a great name both she and her husband can love. Full Article

Hi Duana, I am not an expectant mother, just a fellow name nerd with a general name nerd question. Is the importance of having a name that is easily spelled and pronounced overstated? Does focusing on names that fit those parameters sacrifice the diversity often expressed through naming habits? I have a name that is unusual and not easily spelled or pronounced. Full Article

Hello Duana, Can I name my baby girl Zsa Zsa (probably we'll spell it Zsazsa) Let me give you some background first. My husband is Hungarian. We've decided to honour his heritage and choose a Hungarian name for our baby.  He wants a name that is uniquely Hungarian unlike names Tamás, Ádám, and Zsuzsanna which have English equivalents. Full Article

Hi Duana, My husband and I found out last year we can never have children. No chance. We have always wanted children and still hope to one day, albeit by different means. Around the time we got this news, my sister-in-law got pregnant with the first grandchild of the family. It was really hard for us at the time, seeing all the attention and love being given in anticipation of this first baby in the family. Full Article

I mean look, I guess they can name their kids whatever they want. I’ve seen them do it. And after you’ve had sons named Kingston and Zuma, you can’t easily call the next one Kevin. So I get it and, in fact, I like Apollo better than Kingston or Zuma. It seems like the kind of name that would be a hero in a tween sitcom. Full Article
