Duana, I'm desperately seeking your sage advice. Having read your fascinating book (and every single one of your name blog posts), I feel like I'm slightly more equipped to handle naming my still-yet-to-be-named little one. But with only a month, and the gender to be determined at time of delivery, I am freaking out a little because nothing screams THE ONE. Full Article

Dear Duana, We're expecting a baby girl any day now and she will be our second child. our first born is a boy and we were able to find a name for him that we both loved early on: Aidan. We chose this name because it's traditional but you don't hear it everywhere (disclaimer: i know it's been super popular in the States recently but we live in a French speaking part of Europe so not common at all here!). Full Article

Dear Duana - Three years ago as we were about to welcome our first daughter your voice was in my head. (She's a Veronica, by the way. Best name for our kiddo hands down.) Awkwardly, I'm writing for your input on a situation I've found myself in that has nothing to do with naming a child. Full Article

Duana, I find names fascinating. I am due with my first babe in just under two weeks and I have been pretty set on a name up until now. Just to dial it back, about six months, I was pretty damn convinced that we were having a girl as I come from a large family of women. My intuition said I was carrying a girl, my family and friends thought it was a girl, and it just felt like I had extra feminine energy around me. Full Article

Duana Names: We Do These Here

Dear Duana, I don't know if you do these types of requests but figured it was worth a shot. I am six weeks away from starting university at a school where I know almost no one. I'm excited. It also gives me the opportunity to go by a different name which is something I've been thinking over for years really as a lifelong name nerd. Full Article

Hi Duana, Unlike most people who ask for your help, we have already named our baby girl. She is almost one year old. But Houston, we still have a problem. Our last name is a three syllable Italian name so I wanted a first and middle name that felt light/fresh and not too traditional/fussy. Full Article

Hi Duana, I would love your help please! My husband and I are having our second boy, due in July. We have a name all picked out, but I'm worried that it's becoming trendy or will be seen as a trendy choice. This is compounded by the fact that I think most boy names are horrid- I overheard a dad calling to his son in the park- and the poor little guy's name was MAGNUM. Full Article

Hello! I am due mid-July and the gender is a surprise. I've been scouring your columns for inspiration and reassurance - and I have found some, but we are on somewhat shaky ground when it comes to a boy's name. I also want to have a solid pool of choices when the time comes in case we are emotional and exhausted and none of our first choices fit and we choose something horrible while under the influence of parental judgement. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due with my first at the end of June. We just found out we're having a boy, and of course we only had a (perfect!) girl's name picked out. For background, my husband is Belgian and I am American. I am biracial (Latina and white) and thus we want our child's name to be pronounceable and sound nice (not always the same thing) in French, English, and Spanish. Full Article

Hi Duana, I would appreciate your thoughts on a new name ‘challenge’ that I haven’t seen addressed here before. Baby boy is arriving at the end of the Summer. It is tradition on my hubby’s side to name the son after his father. This is a tradition that I want to respect, however… I don’t LOVE the idea of ‘yet another’ similar name in the family. Full Article

Dear Duana Sadly The Name Therapist is not published here in Australia so I needed to be way more organised than I was when it came to ordering a copy! Perhaps my current dilemma - a nameless 10-day-old daughter - is karma for not having done so! Our new baby girl joins her big sisters Eleanor Maisie and Hazel Frances. Full Article
