Duana Names: The Fatherlode

Hi Duana, You may want to get a beverage, this one’s complicated. I have been imagining this email for months now hoping/praying that after a number of losses this Hail Mary pass of a pregnancy would last. Now with 8 weeks to go we’re looking good for baby boy’s safe arrival in April but we don’t have a name! As a woman of 'advanced maternal age' this is very likely a one shot deal for us so we need to make the name count. Full Article

Duana Names: When The Name Comes First

Duana Posted by Duana at February 24, 2016 21:15:12 February 24, 2016 21:15:12

Hi Duana, Like most others who write in, I'm a life-long name nerd. I couldn't wait to have a human or two of my own to name when the time came. But, as it turns out I'm picky and independent, and so have not followed the conventional path to motherhood! I've chosen to go it alone, and am just starting the process with the aim of conceiving via anonymous donor. Full Article

Duana Names: Making Your Own Call

Duana Posted by Duana at February 22, 2016 21:16:22 February 22, 2016 21:16:22

Hi Duana: I'm due with a boy, our second, in March of 2015. His older sister is named Brynn Ellis Jean Boucher and she'll be 20 months when this guy joins us in March. As you can see, our last name is very French and neither myself nor my husband parle francais. We knew with Brynn that her name was going to be Brynn about mid-way through my pregnancy as soon as we heard it and threw out any competing names. Full Article

Hi Duana, We're struggling with a name for our little guy due in March. When we started out, we were pretty set on Arlo or Wyatt, but we've had some difficulties and it's taken longer than we thought... and now those names seem super popular. Now we're thinking Jasper or Gilbert. Full Article

Duana Names: More than Just Math

Duana Posted by Duana at February 15, 2016 18:48:09 February 15, 2016 18:48:09

Hey Duana, I have been debating whether or not to write in, or whether to just go with the flow and hope that a name fights its way to the top of our list on delivery-day. I've been tempted to ask family/friends their opinions, however I thought a better option would be to get your unbiased view! We are due February 20th with our second, and we do not know if it is a boy or a girl. Full Article

Duana Names: Stand Up And Be Counted

Duana Posted by Duana at February 12, 2016 20:45:54 February 12, 2016 20:45:54

The emails about what to name your child are great. The emails telling me what you did name your child are even better, and yes, I promise there’s a thick update of those coming sometime soon. But the stuff in the middle, the stuff I couldn’t predict, is great too, and I’m looking forward to interspersing some of it more regularly. Full Article

Duana Names: About The List

Duana Posted by Duana at February 10, 2016 21:34:56 February 10, 2016 21:34:56

Hi Duana. I imagine that there is probably a significant backlog of emails from people who need help naming imminent babies, and I'm/we're not expecting, but I could use your advice. Long story short, we are reproductively 'challenged'. Both of us are individually infertile in some way or form, and while it's not impossible for us to start a family, we've got a road ahead of us. Full Article

Duana Names: What am I Missing?

Duana Posted by Duana at February 8, 2016 20:52:33 February 8, 2016 20:52:33

I'm due with our first, a girl, mid-February. And we've kind of chosen a name? and been referring to the baby by it for months now, only I'm realizing that while my fella loves it I don't know that I do: Augustine. (We call the bump Augie) I really want to love it but there's just something that's not clicking for me. Full Article

Duana Names: Gender-Neutral Doesn’t Exist

Hey Duana, I have a son who's coming up on 10 years old who we named Rafferty, after an old-timey Australian actor called Chips Rafferty (we are Australian). Someone said to me recently that Rafferty would soon follow names like Riley and Rowan which were once boy names but which are apparently now girl names. Full Article

Duana Names: Can baby make Three?

Duana Posted by Duana at February 3, 2016 21:25:26 February 3, 2016 21:25:26

Hi Duana! As a long-time lurker, I never expected to be writing in. We have twins, a boy and a girl, and have spent the years since they were born swearing that we were DONE. (With much snark and vigor, I'm afraid.) And now - we are, somehow, considering reversing our stance and trying for another. Full Article
