Duana, Just read your column on how tough boys names are, and that is right where we are. We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl, but we have lots of girls names that we love, and I have no concern that we'll be able to pick a name we love if we have a girl. We are stumped on boys names. Full Article

Duana Names: Back to Basics

Hi Duana, I am due with my second child, a baby boy, the end of June. We have a little girl and her name is Grace. My husband and I immediately loved her name so we never had any issues or debates over choosing a name. This time around it has been much different. This will be the first boy in 4 generations of women on my side, so needless to say our families are pretty excited to welcome a baby boy. Full Article

Baby #2 is on the way and my husband and I just can’t agree on a name.  We’re having a baby girl and already have a daughter named London Nicole. The last name will be hyphenated and we would love a name with the same feel as London without getting to frilly (no Annabelles, Charlottes or other ‘Disney Princess sounding names’) His picks: 1. Full Article

Duana, I am pregnant with twins - a boy and a girl! The pregnancy is a wonderful, wonderful surprise as I was previously told by doctor's it would never happen for me. Believe it or not the time has flown by - my partner and I got married (LOL!) moved houses, renovated and have pretty much changed our lives around to make room for our new babies. Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due in June with our second child (a girl!) and we are having a hard time finding a name we love that goes well with both our last name and our son's name, Marcus.  Since we have a somewhat long Italian last name that people tend to trip over, we are trying to stay away from names that are difficult to spell/pronounce or have several different pronunciations. Full Article

Duana Names: Stop, Alliterate and Listen!

Duana Help! Naming our first born was super easy. My husband and I both have brothers and lots of male cousins that will do their part to honour family names. So there was no pressure for us to take that route. I opened up a baby name book, stumbled upon Nolan and that was it. Middle name Nash, easy. Full Article

So a couple of things in relation to the past few days.   Several of you wrote in to tell me that I had neglected to point out (in this post – click here) the third spelling of Margo/Margot – which is of course Margaux. Full Article

Duana Names: To T or not to T

Hi Duana! I wrote you a name nerd question a little over a month ago and since then the question has morphed. I originally asked your opinion on Margo vs. Amara.  We have since decided on Margo but are now agonizing over Margo vs. Margot spelling. I think we both like Margot a little better but are worried about people mispronouncing her name as "Mar-GOT". Full Article

Duana Names: The Strike List

Hi Duana, This is a bit of a different situation as I am not the mother to be, but rather the sister in law to the mother to be. I was hoping in your infinite wisdom you might be able to help so that I could too. Long story short, my sister-in-law, we’ll call her J has had a name picked out since childhood, and while the whole family has always been aware of this, her cousin who is a few weeks further along and knows she’s having a girl has just hijacked the name. Full Article

Duana Names: In Which I Outlaw A Name

Duana Posted by Duana at May 22, 2015 18:11:28 May 22, 2015 18:11:28

Hi, Duana, My husband and I are expecting our second girl around the end of Spring. We (meaning, I) like very traditional, classic names. Our first girl is Margaret. (And she goes by Margaret.) Our last name is one syllable, so a multi-syllable first name is a necessity. We also live in the South, so double names are certainly an option. Full Article

Duana Names: Name in the Hand

Duana Posted by Duana at May 20, 2015 18:17:48 May 20, 2015 18:17:48

Hi Duana, I need help! I am about to adopt the sweetest little dog from a rescue and I am having a hard time deciding on his name (a yorkie-schnauzer cross, with a beautiful red and white blended coat). Currently, he is named Jerome…which I find very cute, yes, but might want to change (one of the fun parts about getting a dog is all the great name possibilities)! Yet, I always feel slightly guilty about changing a dog's name when he is adjusting to a new home, so I thought about maybe adapting it; I noticed that the main syllable/sound in his name is Rome, which could be easily adapted to Romy or Romeo. Full Article
