Duana Names: Love The One You’re With

Duana Posted by Duana at March 25, 2015 16:04:51 March 25, 2015 16:04:51

My husband and I are expecting our second daughter (due April 9th) and we haven’t finalized her name. Our first daughters name, Addison, stood out to both of us. We knew it was the name immediately and never second guessed our decision. This time around, it's not as easy. I fear that I will not love our baby girls name as much as we love her older sisters name. Full Article

Duana! Help! I'm due in March with our second and we have no clue! So, typical of many of your questions, we have a multi-cultural family and would like names fairly easy to pronounce in English and Spanish. The first problem is my husband happens to have an E name, and we named our daughter an E name. Full Article

OK, look, I just need something clarified- why is being Emma J and one of three Jackson's suddenly a cultural dilemma. This is new, the desire to be unique, the only Thisbe or Barthes in the school, city, province. I'm just genuinely curious to hear the "name nerd's" reasoning on why popular names should be avoided. Full Article

Duana Names: Good for the Goose

Dear Duana, We are expecting a little girl in May and we are facing a dilemma.  My husband and I have been together for 15 years, and shortly after we got engaged a decade ago, we picked the names of our future children. We both loved those names.  So when we had our son three years ago, we didn’t give it a second thought and gave him the pre-picked boy name. Full Article

Hi Duana, So let me bounce this off of you. I have a daughter named Lyrah, after her grandmother. I am expecting another daughter. The other grandmother's name that we like is Alameda. I like that both of these names are unusual and have family history. I'm not feeling Alameda as much though. Full Article

Hi Duana, My sister is expecting her third daughter later this spring and is stuck on coming up with a name that fits with the Russian/Hebrew tradition of the first two (Raiyah and Mila) but doesn't also end in an -a. There have been soo many good ones we've decided to forego because of that, amongst them: Aria, Hannah, Sasha, Anya. Full Article

Duana Names: Two! Two! Two names in one!

Duana Posted by Duana at March 11, 2015 16:21:43 March 11, 2015 16:21:43

Hi Duana, Totally wanted to do this on my own, but I'm throwing in the towel and turning to the expert. I'm 6 weeks away from D day, and not any closer to a name than I was months ago! My husband is Italian and I'm Asian, and expecting my second boy. I wanted to use the same criteria as for my first: Italian or Latin-based formal name, easily pronounced by the Asian side, with a strong-sounding English short form that we would use as his name every day. Full Article

Love you column and need some help!  We are due to have our second daughter in March and are struggling with a name…our first daughter is named Scarlett and we are looking for a name that works well with Scarlett but it also has to be a bit different.  My first choice is Harper but my husband is not down with it and thinks it is becoming too popular (Sigh…he might be right). Full Article

Duana Names: Names Are The Reason

Duana Posted by Duana at March 2, 2015 20:13:56 March 2, 2015 20:13:56

Hi Duana! I'm one of those girls who never wanted to have kids, but have been coming around to the idea, much to my husband's happiness (but no worries, he never pressured me into being a mom). And the main reason I'm coming around to it is because then I get to name the baby! For some strange reason, reading this column and coming up with potential names has been really helpful in making what originally seemed like a crazy concept, a much more realistic idea. Full Article
