Dear Duana, I wrote you a while back in a panic because after what felt like an exhaustive search over the course of a few months, we had zero names for our daughter arriving in November. I'm pleased to report, we finally have a list of names, albeit small, and could use your advice on narrowing our search or hearing your suggestions. Full Article

Hi Duana, We are expecting our second child around Halloween and to everyone's surprise, it will be a boy! I love the combination of a simple first name with a unique middle name. Our daughter is Laura Solveig D----n (a nod to my husband's Norwegian background) and when we thought this one was a girl, too, we fell in love with Alice Eilidh D----n (for my Scottish background). Full Article

Baby number 4 is coming in a few short months... Totally unexpected. My husband and I had our first at the tender ages of 18 & 19, we named her Vaira. We love the name, she loves the name, and nothing anyone says will change that. But fast forward 10 years, I can see how the name can be confusing for people. Full Article

Hi Duana, I’m expecting baby boy #2 at the end of October, and my husband and I are having trouble coming up with a name that we love as much as the one we gave our first son – Calvin James. James is a family name on my side, and since he was getting my husband’s last name, I wanted him to have that connection to my family, as well. Full Article

I know – not so long since the last one and I’m delighted too. I don’t know if summer people just have more daylight hours, so the updates come in sooner – no judgment, but we love getting them! Here’s the update for A Four-Letter Word... Full Article

Hi Duana, We are in desperate need of name help. We are (unexpectedly) expecting our third child this winter and are completely stumped on a name. We don't know the gender and have two sons already named Kadence (the K...I know, I know but I was young and it was 2006) and Cash. Both had family names as middle names, and our last name is hyphenated with 3 syllables total and ending in the "eee" sound. Full Article

Hi Duana! I LOVE your column and your name nerd advice (and your name, to be honest). I also loved your book – how we feel about our names is such a study in human hope and behaviour, I can hardly believe that we went this long without the name nerd column in our lives. I have a name that has a completely wacky spelling so I totally live by my Starbucks name on paper – thank you for not making me feel badly about this. Full Article

Duana Names: I Like It, But Don’t Love It

Hi Duana, I am due in December with my first, a girl. We were pretty set with boys names, our father's names in the middle, with Remi as the first name. (I am French Canadian, so I favour French names. Hubby is Polish Canadian and has no real preferences towards names.) Now that we know it's a girl, hubby won't really budge on my favourite name, which is Louise (Loulou as a nickname). Full Article

Hi Duana, I am expecting my second child in early October, gender to be discovered at birth. I think it is a boy (because the needle and thread said so) but am preparing for either. My first son's name is Tighe (pronounced like Tadgh - Tiger without the r) and we love it, he loves it, it is a rad name. Full Article

Hi Duana, I hope you're well! Sorry for the strange title, but I hope this email explains it all. My husband is white and I'm black and we're trying for our first baby. There's nothing immediate, but we've been talking a lot about names. We have a boy's name picked out but are struggling with a girl's name. Full Article

Hi Duana, We're expecting our second child in October and have started thinking of names. Our first child is Ethan Patrick, which we chose based off of family names. I realize with Ethan coming in on several Top 10 baby lists that it's also probably considered "vanilla" and "common. Full Article
