Duana Names: No Frills

Duana Posted by Duana at August 25, 2014 16:21:58 August 25, 2014 16:21:58

Hi Duana, Hoping you can help my husband and I out. We are expecting our first child in August and are keeping the gender a surprise. We're pretty set on our boy name, but the girl name is what's keeping us up at night. Although we don't necessarily disagree on names, we're having a hard time finding the ONE and making a decision (could also be because we're both super indecisive people and this is pretty much the biggest decision ever!). Full Article

Duana Names: Real vs. Fake

Duana Posted by Duana at August 22, 2014 16:59:15 August 22, 2014 16:59:15

Hi Duana, I'm pregnant with our second child, due in November. We have a 15 month old son named Pearce. Our last name is Allen, which is super mainstream, so it's important to us to choose first names that are memorable. Our style is short and sweet (max 2 syllables). We also like 'real' names as opposed to some of the more recent cobbled together vowels and consonants that people are using (Declan? Jace? Not for us. Full Article

Duana Names: Bitch Stole My Name

Duana Posted by Duana at August 20, 2014 19:51:02 August 20, 2014 19:51:02

Hi Duana, I am currently pregnant with my first child and am having a bit of a name dilemma. The background story is this: I had made the mistake of telling a girlfriend of mine, L, that I liked the name Chloe, and coming from a European upbringing, this is not a common name.  Well about a year ago, I was at a BBQ with L and her friend M, and M proceeds to tell me that she recently bought a puppy (same breed that I was looking at adopting) and named this dog Chloe! I was flabbergasted and from that point knew I couldn't trust L anymore because she went to M and told her about our personal conversations. Full Article

So everyone I know is going to know who this letter is from by (a) my children's names, and (b) the fact that I'm writing in when they all know I am a very loyal reader. My problem is this: we have backed ourselves into a bit of a name corner with our two children, Charles (4, goes by Charlie unless he's in trouble), and Mary (2, goes by Trouble most days). Full Article

Help Duana Hubby and and I are due with our second son in about 10 weeks. The two names in top contention are William and Thomas. Trouble is that our eldest son, now 2 1/2 is George (named after my grandpa, well before Prince G arrived) and I'm worried that if we name no. 2 William I'll cop all sorts of flack for being a mad royalist (which I am definitely not, though I pore over Kate's outfits and pics of G as happily as anyone else). Full Article

Duana Names: Hi Harper and H…

Duana Posted by Duana at August 11, 2014 15:59:52 August 11, 2014 15:59:52

Hi Duana, I am due in 10 weeks with our second child and in need of some advice. Our first was a girl and we named her Harper - it was a last minute decision as we were convinced it was a boy and hadn't made a firm decision on a girls name (we had a top 3 at least). Anyways, the name we had chosen for our son was Holden and now I really want to use that name for baby #2 (we got ultrasound confirmation this time!) but my concern is using "H" names for both our kids. Full Article

Duana Names: The Gaelic Dilemma Expands

Duana Posted by Duana at August 8, 2014 16:12:56 August 8, 2014 16:12:56

Hello Duana! My husband and I are currently expecting #3.  We already have 2 girls (Elyze and Annika) and do not plan on finding out the sex of this baby.  If we have a girl I would really love to find a way to honour my mom's side of the family with her name.  The thing is that my mom has a Dutch background and Dutch female names just don't translate very well into English!  Could you decipher any magic out of "Henderika" (my mom goes by Rita), "Martje" (pronounced Mat-cha) or "Gezina" (my Oma who went by Sina). Full Article

Hi Duana !!! We are (finally) expecting our 2nd child in August and could not be more elated! But we are desperate for your help! With a number of recent calamities, we have not yet taken the time to discuss our choices. I am now at almost 37 weeks!! We are looking for a first name (girl or boy) for our 2nd born: FIRST NAME: SOMEONE MIDDLE NAME: CH*** (one soft Arabic syllable) LAST NAME: M*** (3 Scottish/Irish syllables) must go with his/her sister: LILY N***(one soft Arabic syllable) Some info on Baby-naming #1: We wanted a short name because of the long last name, and middle name was already decided (for my Egyptian roots). Full Article
