Hi Duana, I wondered your thoughts on the boy name Crosby? The other top contenders are Bennett or Cooper. There is a whole bunch of criteria and other factors going into our decision, but I don't want to bore you with those so will just ask the basic question! One detail is that our daughter is named Amelia. Full Article

Duana, I am in dire need of your advice.  I am due at the end of November and my husband and I have chosen to be surprised with the sex. We fairly easily came to a conclusion on a boy's name - Declan, with Dex as a nickname.  My husband's heritage is Irish, and he's very attracted to Irish names, so this fit the bill. Full Article

Hi Duana, Question for you about baby names that I haven't spotted before. Am having a girl in the fall. My husband is desperately in love with the name Sarah (hi Sarah!), but wants to add a second name to it, much like Sarah Jessica Parker or Sarah Michelle Gellar. He is throwing out Sarah Marie, and figures when she gets older she can choose to go by both or just one (my middle name is Marie). Full Article

Hi Duana, I'm due in two weeks with a girl and we are struggling with names. I think you will be up for the challenge. My husband is British and has a very posh last name which got him beat up quite a bit as a kid (he wasn't sent off to boarding school). So we are trying to avoid pretentious society names like Persephone, Cressida, Arabella, etc. Full Article

Hi Duana, My mother's father's name was Johnnie (not a nickname, and spelled just like that). He died a long time ago and my mother always wanted to name a son after him but she ended up having all girls. I'm expecting a girl soon and I was wondering what you thought of this name for her. Full Article

Duana Names: Is Sam an honour?

Hi Duana, I'm a HUGE name nerd and am so happy to be newly pregnant. I have a question about naming strategies and obligations. Here's the deal: Jewish people tend to name children after deceased relatives, to honour them. For example, if it's a girl she will be Paulina, after my grandmother Pauline. Full Article

Dear Duana, I'm having a hard time with my family and the name that my husband and I picked out. I have always thought my Mom’s taste to be superior to mine so it can F#$% with my thinking because she hates it. My husband and I are having our first child which was a feat in and of itself, its a BOY and we have to pair it with our last name which ends with O. Full Article

My husband and I are having a terrible time naming baby #2, and I was hoping I could get a second opinion to help us out (and hopefully convince him I'm right!) If it's a boy, we are set, because we both like the name Braedon Thomas; the only thing that isn't decided is the spelling. I like it the way I've written here, but I feel like he'll be correcting people his whole life and I can't decide if that's too annoying to deal with. Full Article

Hi, My husband and I are expecting our first baby next year and we really like the name Jacek for a boy. And no, it's not because that's Lainey's husband's name (although that's why I'm writing in), it's just a great name. It's my understanding that the name is Polish and pronounced (Yaht-sick). Full Article

Our younger daughter is going to arrive very soon and I have just found a name that my husband approves: "Adelina Lelle". Adelina means noble, Lelle means soul in Hungarian (it's not prounounced like Elle, it's more like Halle or Lel-leh). We call her Lelle, but I think it's not serious enough for a grown woman and it may be complicated to pronounce in other languages, that's why I chose Adelina as a more international first name. Full Article

Hi Duana, My husband and I are expecting our first baby boy and are really struggling with finding a name. We really like "Guerin" (Ga-rin), especially with the french "gue" spelling as my husband's family is French. Are we cursing our child with a lifetime of mispronunciation?? We also are considering Dutch names (my father's family is from/in Holland) such as Willem and Hendrik. Full Article
