I mean look, I guess they can name their kids whatever they want. I’ve seen them do it. And after you’ve had sons named Kingston and Zuma, you can’t easily call the next one Kevin. So I get it and, in fact, I like Apollo better than Kingston or Zuma. It seems like the kind of name that would be a hero in a tween sitcom. Full Article

Duana Names: Is Earl The Answer?

Duana Posted by Duana at February 27, 2014 17:06:41 February 27, 2014 17:06:41

Hi, We are having our first child this July, a boy. My husband really likes the name Earl. It was his grandfather's name. I know that traditional names from the past are very popular, but I feel that Earl is not one of these names. I do not like the name, and cannot help but associate it with the Dixie Chicks song "Goodbye Earl" that has the line "Earl has to die". Full Article

Hi Duana! I am hoping you can help me! I am due with baby #2 in just over 2 months. My husband and I had no problem naming our first daughter and the name came easily to us. Her name is Sophie Olivia F. This time around, we are struggling so much with trying to name this new baby. If Sophie had been a boy, we would have named her Alexander. Full Article

Duana Names: On Esme

Duana Posted by Duana at February 20, 2014 16:39:54 February 20, 2014 16:39:54

Hi Duana, I'm hoping you can provide some neutral perspective on my preferred baby girl's name, because I can't get any from my nearest and dearest. Here's the name: Esme. Here's the problem: for Generation X and the Baby Boomers in Australia (i.e. my husband, my parents, his parents), Esme Waston is a character from a beloved 1980's  Australian drama series called "A Country Practice" - she was an elderly lady who was in the CWA (think the kind of woman who bakes for shows and fairs and has an award winning cake, plays lawn bowls, volunteers for everything, wears support hose and orthopaedic shoes) and was to put it kindly an interfering old busy body. Full Article

Duana Names: Whose Nerd Reigns Supreme?

Hey Duana, Well I’m pregnant for the second time this year, first time ended in a miscarriage very early on, which lead me to be overly cautious/ paranoid with this one. On the bright side everything is going as it should be, and I’m almost 20 weeks so I’m starting to accept that this is actually going to stick. Full Article

Duana Names: Work Around The Sounds

Hi Duana, My husband and I are expecting a boy in May and we're having a really tough time coming up with a good name. Part of the problem is our last name - Wells. It's a fine, traditional English name, but it's also incredibly difficult to match up with a first name. If ‘he’ had been a ‘she,’ we most likely would have used Waverly. Full Article

Duana Names: What if it’s Weird?

Duana Posted by Duana at February 13, 2014 19:27:03 February 13, 2014 19:27:03

Hi Duana, Ok, i've probably left this WAY too late but I'm due in 3 weeks and we can't decide on a name for our second child - a boy. Given that we are a mixed nationality family (Aussie mum, Dutch father) we are looking for something that can be pronounced in both languages and won't present any obvious teasing points. Full Article

Hi Duana, My husband and I are expecting our first child in March and did not find out the sex of the baby. As such we’ve been brainstorming both girl and boy names and really thought we were ready to rock! Unfortunately my friend just has a baby and “stole” our baby girl name! Eloise. Full Article

My husband and I just found out that we’re having a baby girl!  This will be our 3rd child and we are having a difficult time picking a name.  We have a unique family tradition to uphold.  On my husband’s side of the family, all children’s first names start with “D” and middle names start with “E”. Full Article

Duana Names: Julia Emergency

Duana Posted by Duana at January 30, 2014 16:04:38 January 30, 2014 16:04:38

Hi Duana, My baby girl is due in a week and my husband and I were all set to name her Julia. However, I've suddenly gotten a panic attack that "Julia" maybe too common a name. Especially since my husband is now considering "Catherine" as her middle name. I had preferred "Marlowe" as her middle name (since my husband's name is Marlon and I thought it would compliment nicely. Full Article

Duana Names: Bend The Gender?

Duana Posted by Duana at January 28, 2014 18:56:55 January 28, 2014 18:56:55

Duana~ Was hoping to get some advice about naming our baby girl. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and we are not finding out the sex before. We already have a boys name picked out, Maxon Leroy Barnhart. We cannot decide on a girls name. I can't decide whether or not we need to go in a more feminine route because Barnhart is a more harsh sounding last name or not? So far the only name we can come up with that we both like is Samantha. Full Article
